Night Life at Poly

andrefranklinandrefranklin Registered User Posts: 13 New Member
I'll try and keep this brief. So I am attending ASU this fall and I am attending the POLY campus due to the WUE tuition Im under. My mother helped me lease an apartment in Tempe but the campus is a bit far from the apartment and I will not be having my car. So my mother suggested I go live on campus at POLY but I keep hearing that POLY is in the middle of nowhere and has a pretty boring social scene. Academics are my number one priority but I would like to have great experiences with the night life ( parties . So if anyone can tell me about the night life at POLY that would be great :), and jf I also would be better off in an apartment at Tempe or one at Poly. Thanks!

I live in Tempe and am familiar with the general area around Poly (grandparents live in the area). I'm not aware of big Mesa night life. Expect mostly you'll find sport bars in strip malls. There is, along the light rail, in Mesa some more happening arts stuff but Mesa is known for being pretty conservative and somewhat religious (Mormon). There is a good 15-20 minute drive between the Poly area and Tempe. Do not plan on partying in Tempe and driving back there is lots of DUI enforcement.

Just saw that you don't have a car. Missed that. You need to be by campus then. The public transportation here isn't great. Unless ASU runs a shuttle it will take a LONG time and lots of time spent waiting in the heat to get a bus.

ASU operates the Gold Shuttle between Polytechnic and Tempe. The fall schedule is not yet available. During the summer, it only runs M-F, during the days. Based on a tour that we took, I think that in the fall, it does run on weekends and later during the weekdays. Perhaps a current student can give more details.

I personally don't attend the Poly campus but I do live about 10-15 min away when I'm not in Tempe for school. I have worked on projects on the Poly campus and go to the gym there over the summer. In addition, many of my friends go to the Poly campus. The area is pretty quiet, and the surrounding areas are mostly residential or flat-out empty. There are house parties but no clubs/bars/restaurants that encourage the nightlife that you might find in Tempe. I don't think there are any bars within walking distance of Poly, and if you're < 21, then you wouldn't be able to get in anyway.

That being said, I'm sure you could find parties on your own somewhere around campus. There is a shuttle from Tempe to Poly, but I think that would be really tiring and inconvenient.
