I need help advising an International student...

...I am a little out of my league at the moment...working with a current senior who recently transferred to my school in Cairo, Egypt. He played for the Romanian National Basketball team and is wanting to apply to US universities and play ball but is also looking for scholarships (merit, need, athletic -whatever he can get).

He is way behind in the "recruitment" game. But we have him registered with NCAA and he is working on his video. He has sent some emails to coaches but has not had much response. I believe because he is way late in the process. He is a solid B student but has no SAT scores as of yet.

I have discussed with him the possiblity of a prep school but am not educated in this area and have no idea where to direct him. Any advice on resources or fingers pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!!!

How old is he? It might not be a bad idea to look at some of the boarding prep schools, where he would attend as a PG and get his ducks in a row for college and college recruitment. It would not be unheard of for an international student to enter as a junior and have two years at the boarding school before college.

Not saying I think the two year plan is ideal -- but I've seen it happen.

He in was born August, 1994 which makes him 18. So, would it be too late for the prep school alternative??? Right now I have him researching DII schools but the problem is that he has not been "seen". He is working on getting his video ready to share and I have been encouraging him to hurry up and get it out there.

I understand that some prep schools offer scholarships as well...any leads as to where I can find more information on this?

Be sure to find out if he received any compensation or free equipment when he played for the Romanian National team. He will have to prove his amateur status to be gain NCAA approval, and the standards are very strict.
