Pre-Read feedback

HI, all,

Do you know when will JHU provide academic pre-read feedback for potential athlete recruit?

TIA

Did they submit sometime around July 1? I hear that is that day at which they can start submitting but I am not sure that it all happens exactly on that date.

We were told that it was supposed to but there was some delay. But it is now getting into late July and need to decide on which OV to reply...

Cant you take more than 1? I would accept what you have --you dont want to lose any.

Contact the coach and ask him/her on the status.
You are allowed five total visits to D1 schools, and unlimited # to D2. Unofficial visits are unlimited.
Do you have more than 5 D1 schools right now offering official overnight visits?

We already have 3 D3 OV but want to get the schedule down before committing to everyone. I am surprised that it is taking so long. Coach was nice and provided feedback but not sure why it is taking so long.

Also, do not want to take too many days off school and try to limit to 3 OVs only.

Maybe the coach asking you to commit to an OV can shed some light on the pre-read?

No, we do not have an OV from JHU yet. I thought they only extend OV after pre-read is positive?

Every school (and sometimes variability within school/sport) handles OVs differently, but a positive pre-read is a common determinant. However, going forward this is likely to change with the new NCAA rules from April 2018......starting this fall (9/1/18), juniors can take OVs (of course seniors too). I think pre-reads won't be common for junior OVs, but NCAA rules require either an ACT or SAT score for any junior wanting to take an OV.

Hopkins will be a little different if the OV is for lax (a D1 sport and under NCAA rules for OV) and the other sports which are D3. The OV rules don't really apply for D3 sports. If you are hearing the Hopkins completes prereads in early July, make sure people aren't talking about lacrosse. Different rules and different schedules.

This is not for LAX and only for their D3. I guess we will wait until next week as I also do not want to leave the other coaches waiting for us for too long.

@goldendoodles Unless things have changed, you get 5 total OVs at DI or DII schools, and unlimited DIII OVs.

@twoinanddone So is it usual that JHU pre-read can be so late for other D3 sports? The other schools have all provided their feedback but JHU is our top choice so we do not want to schedule for OVs then need to scramble later if we get an invite from JHU. But I guess it is so late that we need to make a choice now...

It is my understanding that pre-reads are submitted in order of recruiting importance to the Coach. Is it possible he is in a second group of considered athletes? Also we had a snafu where a transcript was missing and so was submitted weeks later. Your son/daughter should email or call the coach and politely ask--

That's what we feel now. We did contact the coach and he said somehow admission is slow.

Lax is entirely different than other sports at JHU as it is D1. Scholarships are awarded and the lax admissions is on the same schedule as other D1 schools. Most of those decisions are made long before July 1 of senior year, most made Sept 1 of junior year. They used to be all awarded to freshmen and sophomores and the admissions to JHU was just the last step. The coaches know who can be admitted and pre-reads for FA are different too because of the athletic scholarship.

If you hear people saying that they already heard back from JHU, you have to separate the lax players from other applicants.
