My backup school just waitlisted me and i’m confused.

the only reason I can think of why they did is because I just turned in my CSS profile late

can colleges defer you due to a css profile?

NO. But they may waitlist you if they don't think you're likely to come-if they get wind that you have applied to other schools that are better fits or more popular and that you'll likely get into. Then they wait to see if you express interest in them. If you are interested, I'd send a note of interest. If you are sure you would attend, I'd even see if the guidance counselor will make "the call" for you.

This just happened to my daughter today. Baylor was her safety and they deferred her. She didn’t send in any essays, so perhaps that signaled her lack of strong interest. She has a 34ACT and 45 hours of 4.0 dual credit from our local community college (she’s a homeschooler), 2 AP 5’s, 3 stellar LORs, did a full time internship last summer, yada yada yada. She’s currently waiting to hear back from Rice (her dream school) but if she doesn’t get in there, she’ll have to decide between UT and various merit scholarship offers at other Texas schools.

So she thought the whole thing was kinda funny. It was the first app she sent off, months ago, and then she sort of forgot all about it once the other offers started rolling in.

We did not even turn into the CSS. Not sure how that impacts anything.

If a student does not complete the optional items (essays, etc), the school assumes they are not seriously interested. That usually proves to be correct.

Interesting! I My daughter homeschooled, graduated a year early, brought in 33 hours of dual-credit and is a University Scholar. She only wrote essays for the HC. I cannot fathom why they would waitlist her. She did nothing extra.
