Transfer Housing

Hi all~

I was just accepted to BC as a sophomore transfer, and had a few questions about housing.

**I haven't visited yet, but should visit campus sometime in the next week, so I'm going to ask some of these questions then, but I wanted to get some perspectives from those on CC first**

1) Do they take your preferences into account, or as a transfer are you just stuck with the crumbs?

2) Where are most transfers likely to end up? (I'm hoping for an 8 person suite--or suite at all-- in Vandy, and my other two references are suites or apartment-style housing. Am I hoping for too much?)

3) What are the suites like? Do all the suites have a kitchen/bathroom/common room?

4) Are some buildings for sophomores/seniors only (like say Vanderslice or the Reservoir or Thomas More Apartments) or are they mixed/general?

5) Why does everyone hate on College Road so badly?

6) Does when you submit your housing application affect what housing you get (like, will submitting it sooner rather than later help secure more preferential housing options?)

Ah, I think that should be it. I'd love to hear some opinions/perspectives before the admitted transfer day! Thanks in advance!

I’m a student at BC but not a transfer. I do have friends who are so here’s what I hear on the topic.

    1) Do they take your preferences into account, or as a transfer are you just stuck with the crumbs?

I think they take into account preferences but it really just depends on what has been reserved for transfers and random selection people. People who do random selection don’t get their housing til June, so I think transfers are in the same selection process, So by no means are you stuck with the crumbs.

    2) Where are most transfers likely to end up? (I'm hoping for an 8 person suite--or suite at all-- in Vandy, and my other two references are suites or apartment-style housing. Am I hoping for too much?)

I know two transfers who ended up in an 8 person suit in Vandy, which is probably the best housing for sophomores. I think it’s pretty random.

    3) What are the suites like? Do all the suites have a kitchen/bathroom/common room?

8 person suites have a common room, 2 bathrooms but not an entirely full kitchen.

    4) Are some buildings for sophomores/seniors only (like say Vanderslice or the Reservoir or Thomas More Apartments) or are they mixed/general?

Housing goes pretty much by which year you are.
Sophomores: (on lower) Vandy, Walsh, 90, 66
Junior (If want on-campus housing): Reservoir, Stayer
Senior: Reservoir, 2150, Mods, Rubenstein, Voute

    5) Why does everyone hate on College Road so badly?

It’s because of the distance between the rest of the class that lives on Lower Campus. If you live in CoRo you are separate from the rest of your class. Not to mention, you are on Upper close to where the Freshmen live. That being said, it’s really not that bad. It’s just a short trip across campus to Lower. There’s definitely advantages to being on CoRo, but there tends to be a negative stigma towards it.

    6) Does when you submit your housing application affect what housing you get (like, will submitting it sooner rather than later help secure more preferential housing options?)

No, it’s completely random for everyone.
