Boston College Transfer Thread - Fall 2019

Sort of surprised I haven't yet seen this thread since it's about time to get apps in, so I figured I'd put it out there for anyone interested in discussing.

Major: Applied for Poli Sci but I'll be changing to Econ if I'm admitted, possibly doubling in Philosophy
Currently at a CC in PA, but did a stint at a T-25 on the west coast (transferred there but didn't like the west coast)
HS GPA: 2.7
SAT: 1150 (I know)
College GPA: 3.7
Credits: 44 with 12 IP
ECs: Not much, I've been working while in school and had work study at my previous school; switched majors quite a few times when I was there, so I was pretty much stuck in a revolving door when it came to joining clubs and orgs that suited my interests.
Essay: Focuses on my not so great experience at the T-25, how and what I've learned from it, why BC is a great fit, etc.

If you reading this, welcome to the 2019 BC Transfer thread and good luck to you!

    @penntousc

For 2018-2019, BC received approx 1500 transfer apps and initially offered spots to about 170. That is a 11.3% acceptance rate. At one of the orientation sessions over the summer ( I was present) for both new and transfer students, an admission person specifically congratulated accepted transfer students with the words, "If you are in this room as a transfer accept, congratulations on getting into BC the hard way." That said, one of my good friends here is a transfer from a well regarded honors program at a NE CC. Stats similar to yours, but higher HS GPA (3.3) similar SAT but real solid EC's and killer essay. (I read it) He coasted throughout HS, but turned on the afterburners his senior year and went to on to get an assoc. degree from a CC honors programs with a unweighted 3.80 GPA. I also believe his PELL grant eligibility influenced the admissions dept. So, based upon his track-record, I would say you have a pathway for acceptance.

    God luck.

@bbfan1927 Sounds great! I'm almost certain that if I get into BC I will be attending since they meet 100% need, have a great rep in the NE and have very strong liberal arts majors. Other schools I'm applying to are BU and UNC, and I'm eligible to return to my previous school but I won't do that unless I'm rejected everywhere else. Thanks for the info!

Also applying to BC as a transfer
3.4 college GPA at UNC Chapel Hill 3.22 first semester and 3.7 second semester so I'mhoping they take my upward trend in to account.
    3.8 HS GPA
    1400 SAT
Essay also focuses on how BC would be a better fit for me than Carolina.
Got in as a freshman but went to UNC instead so I'm hoping that does not negatively influence the decision.
REALLY wanna go to BC but not super optimistic about getting in again due to my low college GPA.

I've heard Carroll transfers are incredibly difficult, is there any data out there on what the acceptance rate looks like for transfers? I've heard they only accept for Carroll on an as-needed basis, but the BC transfer site doesn't seem to acknowledge that at least, and I don't want to waste my application by applying to Carroll if it is true.

@maggiedancer and @ bvbchamps For the record- getting into CSOM as transfer is very very difficult. Transferring into CSOM as an INTRA college transfer is equally difficult. Don;t want to dissuade either of you but if BC is your TOP school and you want better odds, apply to MCAS with a major in econ and pickup a business minor in CSOM. CSOM is open to all college students looking for a business minor. In my humble opinion, in the finance/business word, a econ degree is just as good pedigree as a CSOM degree.

hello! I'm also applying to BC for the fall this year,
    My stats from high school:
    ACT: 29
    GPA: 3.80
    SAT: 1290
In various clubs; student council, NHS, Rho Kappa, etc., and did a lot of community service hours, probably around 100 hours

    ASU:
    GPA: 3.93
Job: Office assistant at a Hispanic Research Center
Performed at a congress for Spanish speakers
Completed many community service hours as well

I am also bilingual, and will be applying as a first-gen, Hispanic, female.
My SAT/ACT are not that great, so I kind of just want to know if I even have a chance of getting in.

Yes. And congrats on the great college resume. It’s 10 percent or so chance for everyone. So keep an even keel and chin up. You’re already in a really good school doing so well.

Remember BCs commitment to service so meaningful updates along those lines can’t hurt. As long as they are meaningful and brief.

Can't link it but US News world report show 2017 as 1384 applied/230 accepted = 16% accept rate. As reported by adm at acceptance weekend in may of 2018, 2018 had 1500+ apply and 170+ or - accepted = 11.3% accept rate .

Hey all. Wondering what you think of my chances getting into BC as a transfer.

    High school GPA: 3.97 UW
    ACT: 33
Various clubs and extracurriculars, honors student, 10/500 in class rank

Now at a ranked private university
    1st semester GPA: 3.73
2nd semester GPA: all A's on midterm grade report
    Dean's list, honors program
A few clubs as well as volunteering

Does it make a difference that I was accepted as a freshman but did not choose to go there? I wrote about this in the application as it was primarily a financial decision and that is no longer an issue.

And one more question - around when has BC released transfer decisions in the past?

So if you read my posts above, you would note that the acceptance rate for transfer in 2017 was 16.6% and for 2018 it was 11.3%. Those rates are significantly lower than the over acceptance rates be it EA or RD. Interested to see how many transfer apps are submitted for 2019- does the accept rate drop into the single digit's?? Your stats are very but you have around a 1 in 10 chance. Rumor on campus is BC wants PEL grant students- the more the better....

Based on previous years, I believe they'll be releasing them either May 9th or 10th this year
