joemamaskitchenjoemamaskitchen 4 replies4 threads New Member
Hello everyone,

I'm applying to BC under regular decision. It's one of my top schools, and it's still competing with Babson College to be in my #1 spot (I got accepted to Babson btw). I intend to enroll to the Carroll School of Management. I'm a Latino male who attends the top public high school in my state.

Weighted GPA: 94.06/100 (No unweighted GPA. Highest in my class is a 98/100, and ever in my school's history was a 102/100)
SAT: 1340 (680 math and 660 English)
Rank: 21/210, or 10% of class

AP Tests: APUSH 5, AP Lang 4, AP French 3

Extracurriculars/Work Experience:
1) Co-founded student organization, in which we collaborate with elected officials to craft bills to pass in state government. Experience testifying.
2) Paid intern at State Capitol
3) President of school newspaper
4) Founder of school radio/tv morning announcements
5) Yearbook treasurer
6) Captain of Debate Team

Awards/Honors:
1) Recognition for taking National Spanish Exam
2) Recognition for taking National French Exam
3) AP Scholar

It’s a real reach, rd is going to be a crowded field to fill only half the class this year. However depending on your geography, regional competition and the specific quality of your application - you have a chance with the strong gpa and overall profile.

BC seems to love strong academic profiles with the most challenging coursework offered at your school and top ten percent of your class. About 80 percent of the incoming class will rank there. Really important that your rationale for why BC speaks to their mission.

Being AHANA is certainly helpful you.

You should be proud of your success and accomplishments.

Babson acceptance is a big deal. Congrats. Nothing to lose at this point.

Let us know how it all turns out. Good luck!

I would like to know if registering for an Eagle for a Day Visit would increase my chances of admission at BC.

I would say no in general. However if you do attend and you can find out who is the admissions officer for your application, I would stop by and see if you can say hello. Tell them how excited you are for the opportunity and you wanted them to be able to put a face to a name.
Thank them and leave. Very brief but a chance to make you a human being.

They might not see you, but I am sure if you are polite and brief the receptionst will pass your message along.

Nothing would help more than a person or staff colleague telling them your name and that you just wanted to introduce yourself and that you were very - Polite!

Private Banker: Hi, You seem to know a lot about BC...have read many of your previous posts (I know...get a life! lol). I am wondering what you (and others) have heard about Gabelli Scholarship program...what does a student need to tip the scales in his/her favor? I luv, luv, luv BC but since there is no merit aid....net price calculator was sobering...but not impossible. However, BC might be a hard sell to my parents when other schools are being generous. According to Naviance, I am the 2nd highest person to have applied there from my school...hope to be accepted.

    Thx ahead of time.

Private Banker, Tx so much for getting back to me so quickly! However, much to my dismay, I read that the Gabelli nominations went out last week...even by pony express, I would have received it by now :-( So, I guess that my next question is...are there any other awards of any kind at BC that are not need based? My family is middle class and I am not expecting a free education (although I wouldn’t refuse one lol) but my parents don’t want me to go into debt for a bachelors degree, especially since I am considering medical school in the future. But I keep thinking that BC is the right fit for me!!! I went to Eagle For a Day and went out of there kicking and screaming (Not really.. but you get the picture). Any thoughts?

Not pb, but the answer is that the only merit aid that BC has is the Gabelli Scholarships. All other aid is need-based.

@bluebayou is 100 percent accurate. But wait for the aid package and decision before worrying too much. Aid is very good based on financial need. See how it all works out.
