Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

GiraffingGiraffing Registered User Posts: 85 Junior Member
Hey guys! I wanted to start a thread for everyone applying for the Fall 2016 semester as a transfer. This way, we can support each other and help each other out! Here is a little bit about me, or my "stats" as they say:

I am a Sophmore at a community college and I will graduate in May with my Associates in Liberal Arts.

Academic Stats:
- GPA: 4.0
- Member of my school's Honors Program
- Member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society
- Participated in an Honors Independent Study Language & Politics Course

Activities:
- Organized a charity drive where over $2,000 and over 4,600 personal hygiene items were collected and donated to local women's and abuse shelters
- Member of my school's New Student Orientation Team. I volunteered to help organize orientation for new students, gave tours of campus, and was part of a student panel where we answered questions
- Intern for my local county's Democrats office
- Member of WolfPAC, a political organization who works to get private money out of public elections and stop corruption in politics. I successfully convinced my congresswoman to co-sponsor and vote for a bill to help this cause.
- Organized a Rock The Vote voter registration drive at my school that will take place this Spring
- Student coach for two local youth ice hockey associations
- Participated in student exchange program to France

Work Experience:
- Customer Service Rep for Barney & Dickenson Inc. (A construction materials company)

This is all I can think of right now. I'm currently working on crafting my application and hope to finish it and send it in at the end of next week. You can chance me if you like. I love BU and I'm nervous about my chances.

I'm currently a freshman at the state university of New York at Binghamton majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

    GPA: 3.51/4.00

High school GPA: 96.65 UW out of 100

I got accepted last year to Boston University at the College of Engineering, but because of a mishap of financial aid they weren't ale to give me any money. I'm going to avoid that mistake again this year. Hopefully they will accept me as a transfer student because I still have a very strong desire to go, and I'm not to happy about where I currently go, although it is supposed to be one of the best state schools in NY.

I'm currently going to SUNY Broome in Binghamton! Don't feel bad about not liking BU, i'm from this town and can't blame you. I've heard too many stories about people not liking it.

Sorry to hear about financial aid! That really sucks. Good luck this time!

Thanks! I'm really hoping so. And definitely post your stats! I'm hoping to make this into a transfer thread where we can all talk and support each other.

^ I am a second semester Freshman, will have 34 credits after my first year (took 16, then 18)

You shouldn't worry. If they'll accept anyone, You're a great candidate. DO you know if admissions to the CoE is significantly more selective than other schools? they say the average accepted GPA by a BU student is a 3.5, But I am afraid that an influencing factor is the CAS
  • mcknight95mcknight95 Registered User Posts: 96 Junior Member
I have a 3.61 gpa and i'm applying to CAS. I'm finishing up my 4th semester of community college. I have about 52 credits done. I hope I get in. I submitted my app earlier this week. The wait from now till May is gonna suck.

Hey everyone! I'm applying to Harpur. I'm a sophomore at Liberty University, with a 3.8 over 62 credits. I'm on a scholarship here through my schools honors program, and am involved in weekly community service. Really hoping to get into Bing. I'm also a NY resident.

Being that it's rolling admission--anyone get any replies?
  • Rockerr83Rockerr83 Registered User Posts: 55 Junior Member
@UnionBlue , I think you have the wrong school. This thread is on Boston University, not Binghamton.
  • kfellysnenakfellysnena Registered User Posts: 40 Junior Member
Is anyone sending ACT/SAT scores? I know that they aren't required but a lot of schools prefer that you send them anyways.
However, BU's wording makes it seem like it's not even an option for transfer students to send their scores.
  • UnionBlueUnionBlue Registered User Posts: 15 New Member
    Oops! My bad, sorry everyone.
  • Rockerr83Rockerr83 Registered User Posts: 55 Junior Member
@kfellysnena I saw a live stream on BU transfer admissions, and the guy specifically stated that they do not require it, and if you send them they might not look at them. They want to see what you did in college because that is the most accurate depiction on how you are as a college student. If you want, I can send you the link for the stream, its up on their website.

I actually think this approach is refreshing. At least it is for me! lol
  • kfellysnenakfellysnena Registered User Posts: 40 Junior Member
@Rockerr83 Oh thanks so much! Definitely refreshing! I feel like so many schools say one thing and mean another lol.
I would love to see that stream if it's not too much trouble!? Ahhh thank you so much
