PLME Program....how to boost chances??

scienceolympianscienceolympian 17 replies18 threads Junior Member
I really like PLME program at Brown which allows students to be locked into a medical school while pursing a wide variety of course in their undergrad. It is one of their most selective programs and I'm applying early decision there. Can anyone give advice on how to make myself stand out?
I have 33 on ACT (31 English, 34 Math, 33 Reading, 35 Science, 10 essay)
720 SAT 2 Chemistry
770 SAT 2 Math 2
710 SAT 2 Math 1
720 SAT 2 AP US History
5 on AP European Test, English Language and Comp
4 on AP US Test
3 on Calclus and Chemistry AP tests
4.0 GPA
volunteered at GP's office last summer shadowing her
internship this summer in UK Hospital for 3 weeks working with doctors and volunteered at their charity events
Science Olympiad (15 medals and co captain), FBLA (placed twice on national level and state vice president), Key Club, Tennis, and Quiz Bowl
Anything else that I'm missing and is my ACT score too low? Should I take the SAT to supplement?

Sounds like you're an international student? What's your citizenship?

There isn't really anything you should be doing now, except lining up your recommendations and writing some killer essays.

I think your stats are similar to most students applying to the program. Take special care in writing good essays.

Does being a URM help? Last year no one from my home country got into Brown and I don't know whether no one applied or they were all rejected- Brown is not that famous here- so I think I might have an edge if I apply cause my scores are lining up pretty well, buh here in my country, there aren't really any major opportunities for EC's.
    How good are my chances?

@bruno14 So you don't think I should take my SAT again?

No, you have perfectly fine scores. If you don't end up getting into Brown or PLME, it won't be because your scores are too low.

At this level, standing out would require something really extraordinary, serious ECs or research. You can apply, but all these programs are extremely competitive, and Brown is pretty impossible to get into for most as well.

I'd work hard on finding a good selection of schools in all ranges of competitiveness. If you really, really want a med school acceptance now, you will have to fight for a very limited number of spots, and some of them won't be in your favorite UG school either.
