Heads up -- last year, the applicant portals ALL looked different and even changed over time and none of this seemed to be predictive of anything.

@profdad2021 Do you remember when the Brown admissions decisions were released last year?

There is a thread on this forum for the ED class of 2021. Find that thread and you can see when the results came out last year.

Just had my interview! Interviewer said he doesn't see a reason for Brown to reject me, and that I would be a "great addition." Told my dad that he had a "very impressive daughter." YAY! If anyone wants to know any specific (questions asked, etc) just let me know!

@giantoctopus We did the interview at a local coffee shop. I showed up a little early & bought a hot chocolate so it wouldn't be awkward when he came lol. The first thing he asked was why I applied early decision, then he asked about the open curriculum. Then he started asking about my high school experience, classes I've taken, how I've gotten involved throughout high school. He asked followup questions about certain extracurriculars and stuff. I talked a lot about my interests in both STEM and the humanities so he asked about how I would pursue both at Brown. Then in the middle he asked if I had any questions. After, he went back and asked me some more questions about my high school experience etc. He asked if I had any siblings, and I moved around a lot throughout my life so he asked about that. There was one weird question when he asked whether I had any backups and what other schools I am planning to apply to, but I quickly tried to steer that back to the topic of Brown. In the end, he just asked if I had anything I wanted to add that would give him a better picture of who I am. Overall, it was super chill. I think it's important to remember that the interviewer is on your side! It was just a conversation. He didn't have any "trick" questions, he just asked me to talk about my interest in Brown, what I do, and what subjects I am interested in, which are all pretty basic topics. Good luck!!!

@giantoctopus nope he graduated from Brown in 1979! But he has a daughter who is a current freshman and one who graduated in 2013 so he was able to answer more current questions.

Just had my interview at a local Starbucks. It was, by all accounts, pretty standard. Questions he asked:
    • Why Brown?
    • Why are you interested in the major(s) you indicated?
    • Thoughts on the Open Curriculum?
    • Who/what inspires you?
    • Favorite course(s) in high school?
    • Most challenging course(s) in high school? Time that you felt the most challenged in life?
    • Things you most enjoy at high school, i.e. sports, EC's
He asked followup questions about most of my answers. The conversation flowed smoothly between most questions. There were no curveball questions.

Beyond that, he was constantly asking me if I had any questions for him about Brown. I asked about his experience at the school (major, open curriculum, social life, alumni community). We talked about how he met his wife there and the fact that their wedding was on campus. He seemed to enjoy the fact that I showed interest in his life. We eventually ran out of stuff to talk about and ended the interview. It lasted almost exactly an hour.

I had my interview on Sunday at a coffee shop and it was super chill for me! My interviewer graduated in 2011 and she started off by asking me to introduce myself but we ended up having a very long discussion where we jumped from topic to topic. I ended up leading most of the discussion then relating it to something about me/something personal and she would share something and bounce off it. In the end my interview was almost two hours and she said I seemed like a perfect candidate (then warned that I should have other options because Brown is very competitive and she can't guarantee anything) and that she didn't even notice the time going because we had such a nice discussion.

The interview has little bearing on admissions. Try not to read too much into anything so you don't get your hopes up. Brown can't take all the qualified students it wants to. Better if you have a hook of some kind.
