The time it takes to receive an interview invite depends entirely on when your interviewer checks the portal to get contact info and send emails to applicants. We are assigned interviewees by our regional interview chairs, but then need to log in and contact applicants personally. If we're busy or forget for a while, it could be days or weeks after the initial assignment. Or it could be the same day as the assignments go out.

@Lara101 Yale has posted 3/28 in the applicant portal for regular decision release date, and the Ivies tend to release regular decision results on the same day.

I chose interview option. But I don't get interview so far. Should I call them, or wait, or maybe no alumni nearby?

@r5r11r On the application status portal, it states, "While we make every effort to provide interview opportunities to all students who requested one, the large number of Regular Decision applicants means that we cannot guarantee that everyone who requested an interview will be contacted. Please be patient as our interviewers continue to reach out to applicants to arrange a convenient time to meet. The deadline for our alumni interviewer to contact applicants is February 15, 2019. If you have not been contacted by February 15th, you will be given the option to submit a Video Portfolio at that time."

@r5r11r My D was accepted ED, and she chose to do the video portfolio instead of the personal interview. IMO it may be a better option anyway, because it puts your face directly in front of an admissions officer instead of being presented through the lens of a third party. I thought she did a wonderful job (obviously I'm biased) and showed a very personal side of herself as she talked about one of her hobbies that was not discussed much elsewhere in her application. If you don't get an interview, don't be disheartened. Take it as an opportunity to put your best foot forward and put together a portfolio that will round out your application and show admissions what a wonderful person you are.

Hey everyone, quick question: today one of my supplemental recommenders received an email from the dean of admissions thanking him for his "wonderful" letter on my behalf. Does this mean anything / do all supplementary recommenders get an email like this?

@question888 why did you have a supplemental recommendation? Were you deferred and then had an additional recommder submit to Brown?

^ Here is what Brown Admissions says on supplemental material...

    "All Other Supplementary Materials

Applicants are neither required nor expected to provide additional materials as part of the admission process, but the opportunity to do so is available to any candidate.

We prefer that you upload all other supplementary materials to your file after you receive access to your Brown Applicant Portal.

We recommend that you do not send a collection of award certificates or similar materials.

If you have a YouTube video, or maintain an online presence that showcases your background, talents, or creativity, please include that link in the Brown University Questions (Activities) section of the Common Application.

Supplementary letters of recommendation should be sent directly by your recommender to Brown University, Office of College Admission, Box 1876, Providence, RI 02912, or they may be emailed to [email protected], or faxed to 401-863-9300. Be sure to ask your recommender to include your full name, date of birth and high school in their letter so that we can match the letter to your application. If sending by email, letters should be sent as a PDF attachment."

In other words you can send a supplemental LOR, but if doing so I would make sure it provides something unique. Beware of the admissions saying the thicker the file the thicker the applicant.

I based the comment on first hand experience. You will also see it confirmed by others throughout numerous threads. It is Brown's way of confirming receipt.

@question888 probably not a bad thing but perhaps they also send it so the professor knows the recommendation was received and they appreciated the professor’s effort on your behalf.

but if it's just to confirm receipt then why refer to the rec as a great letter? idk i got one but i also know ppl who didn't get one. im sure it's not a big deal (the email itself is p generic) but i don't think it's entirely random/standard practice

@barbietingz12 because the email is an official communication from the admissions office. Why wouldn’t they say something nice about the letter since someone took the time and effort to write it. Common courtesy at a minimum.
