Haven't found a thread for this year's Fall 2019 transfer admissions so thought I'd make one.

I'll start:

High School Stats
GPA: N/A
IB Diploma (37/45) - Higher Levels in Physics, Mathematics, Economics (7/6/6)
ACT: 34
SAT Subject Tests: Physics (800/800), Math II (800/800)

Current University: USNews Public Top 40
Major: Applied Physics & Mathematics
Year Level: Sophomore (applying for Junior entry)
College GPA: 3.81 (multiple honors courses, upper-level courses in physics & mathematics)
Essays: Why Transfer (8/10), Brown Supplement (7/10)
Extracurriculars: Internship, research, office assistant, leadership positions in Physics Club, Astronomy Club
Honors: Golden Key & Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Societies, Dean's List every semester, a scholarship, course citation
Applying for Fin Aid? No
State Residency: International
Recommendations: Electromagnetism Professor & Multivariable Calculus Professor -- I think reccs are pretty solid

I think my chances are low (~10%) for transferring to Brown but hey, you never know until you apply!

Thanks for starting this thread! I'm currently a college first year applying for sophomore year entry.

High school (top 10 in MA)
GPA: 3.25 (most nervous about this)
    SAT: 1470
APs: Lit-4, Chinese Lang and Culture-5, US History-4

Current college (top 30 liberal arts college)
Major: Film and East Asian Studies
    GPA: 3.95
    EC's:
    - Research assistant
    - Writer for e-magazine
    - Intern at podcast
    - Exec board for student cultural-political org
    - Christian fellowship
    - Dining hall worker
    Applying for Fin Aid? No
Recs: Neuroscience professor (8/10) and Chinese Professor (10/10)

High school stats are definitely my weakness but I'm hoping that they take note of my improvement made at college!

I think you're in decent shape. If you don't get in this year, your chances will only improve for the year after as the relevance of your HS stats diminishes over time.

High School: top 10 in MA, but transferred to online hs for reasons explained in essays
    GPA: 3.76 unweighted (estimate)
    ACT: 29 (nervous about this!)
    Current University: Big 10
    Major: Biochemistry
Year: Freshman applying for sophomore transfer
    College GPA: 3.953
Essays: Why Transfer (7/10), Why Brown (7/10), why your area of study (8/10)
Extracurriculars: Pre-med volunteer club, Religious club, biochemistry club, volunteer at a community college and hospice care facility, deans list, intern for social awareness company, VP of accessibility club, former semi-professional athlete (won rookie of the year for that team), work as accounting and marketing intern over breaks
    Applying for Fin Aid? No
    Residency: New England
Recommendations: English Instructor (9/10), Chemistry prof (7/10)
    Hooks: Hispanic/multi-racial

I hope that they recognize my GPA as a reflection of my abilities more than one test that takes 4 hours of your life.

Looking at your guys' stats, I'm feeling a bit intimidated. I'm rooting for you, hope we all get in, haha! :)

For the midterm report is an exact letter grade required? One of my professors insisted on just writing "satisfactory".

Not to my understanding. I know I have some professors who want to simply give "In Progress" because they feel uncomfortable with predicting a letter grade on yet-completed coursework and others that want to give me my current grade insofar as my letter grade.

I don't think colleges put a lot of weight on the MidTerm report as its difficult to standardizeregulate the Mid-Term Report across many schools and different faculty. I believe its purpose is to show adcoms that students are still enrolled in the courses they initially registered for as seen on the transcript and that they're making satisfactory progress towards the completion of their semester. If you're already a well-performing student and your Midterm report doesn't suddenly show Ds or Fs, you're set.

Hey guys whats up? I'm applying to Brown as well for a junior transfer in fall 2019 from the University of Toronto for Computer Science. My GPA is 4.0, SAT is 1470, released multiple games on the Play Store, Pearson Scholar, established author, and have launched a startup. What are my chances?

Looks competitive anywhere, but will boil down to strength of recommendations + reasoning for transfer. What can Brown provide that Toronto can't?

I applied to Brown for the following reasons:
->Computer Graphics concentration + Music Concentration + Animal Psychology minor
->Lesser size, therefore more useful interactions with Prof
->A place to reopen my start up again using Brown's Entrepreneurial Hub (my start up was closed in my current UNiversity because no support was apparently offered for a sophomore)
    ->Assignments too ez

Yeah, these were my reasons which I reflected upon my PS. What do you think?

They sound pretty solid -- it seems fairly connected to Brown although a counter-argument would be how many other schools possess the same offerings. If execution was good then yeah there's nothing more I can say beyond your chances being stronger than most.

Not sure what to expect tbh. On the bright side I've finalized my summer plans so at the very least I know I'll be okay at my old school if I don't get into Brown.

Based off threads in previous years it looks like those admitted, at least for sophomore admission, had both a strong college and high school profile. Admission seemed kinda random and a complete crapshoot. The transfer acceptance rate has been getting pretty low for Brown (I believe it was about 5% last year), but it just depends on how much space they have. If you have a strong profile then you have a reasonable chance, but you can just look at threads of previous years to see that even if you have a strong profile, there doesn’t seem to be a way to gauge your chances like you can with similar schools, such as Vandy and Georgetown

Just checked back at the 2017 thread, as well as the 2018 thread. It seems that a lot of sophomore transfers were kinda lateral transfers coming from T15-T25 schools and the rest seemed to be junior transfers...hopefully that’s not representative of the overall acceptance pool for us rising sophomores...

The portal didn't notify me that the portfolio was submitted, but I emailed transfer admissions and they verified that it was added to my application.
