edited May 2007 in Business Major
sadly i got rejected from UC Berkeley today as a transfer
I am still pondering about which school in the UC system to go to for investment banking and being hired one day by the Big4
Out of these 4 schools should i go to
UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, UC IRvine, and UC San Diego

Its hard for me to pick and i have no preference over any of the schools, because my main focus is just tryin to get that IB job. I heard UCSB and UC Davis are Big4 recruiting schools, and i know nothing about UC Irvine or UC San Diego being recruiting schools.

Plz ppl give me ur ideas and reasons which school is the best out of the 4 for IB
Thank you very much

Huh? You mean you want to one day work for a bulge bracket. Big4 are Deloitte, Ernst and Young, KPMG, and PWC. They are accounting firms.

Sadly, none of these schools are target schools. Have you looked into UCLA? They are like a semi-target and you will probably get some interviews if your GPA is 3.8+

are you planning on working on big 4 first and then hope to get into I banking?

HLHZ hires primarily out of UCLA and USC, and UBS LA also recruits heavily at UCLA...

UBS LA started recruiting at USC too now because of alumni

I think leo187um's point was that the OP didn't seem to understand that the Big 4 accounting firms and Investment Banking are in no way related to each other.

Indeed. It will be awkward if you get an interview with one of the big4 and be like "So I wanna be a banker." lol.

Yeah man the difference between IB and Big4 is huge. You trying to be an IB at the Big4 is about the same as trying to be Scarface selling baby powder.

what majors do IB firms look for? What is most ideal?

would taking the finance route get me to Ibanking? The link provided mentioned law majors going into ibanking

Major in something quantitative at a feeder school....

And love the happenings on wall street. Don't just want to be an Ibanker because everyone else wants to be an Ibanker. You need to be extremely interested and excited by current events in economics/finance/business or else, if you happen to get an offer, you will be miserable.

Well, I wouldnt go that far. A lot of the big 4 firms have their own corporate finance division.

As long as you attend a core target school (HYPSW), what you major in doesn't really matter. If you attend a business school (top 10), then finance (obviously) or accounting would give you the best shot.

what if you don't exactly fall in a target school, but in one of the UC's? I'm actually in that situation. Should my goals of ever getting into Ibanking be after an mba? My plans as of now would be work hard to get hired into one of the big 4, work a couple years so I can go to a target grad school. Afterwards, I would start looking into Ibanking? Is that the most plausible route for someone that doesn't go to a target school(going to davis).
