Can any1 else help me out with the list for Entrepreneurial Studies?
  • doctorrobertdoctorrobert Registered User Posts: 163 Junior Member
does anyone have a list from a more...respected/reliable source than one that uses "peer assessment?"
  • snipanlolsnipanlol Registered User Posts: 538 Member
If there is any source that is the most respected, it is the US News and World Report ranking. Which is what you see above.
  • doctorrobertdoctorrobert Registered User Posts: 163 Junior Member
maybe for some things like ranking the actual colleges, but as for business rankings...

USNWR just distributes surveys to various schools and asks them what they all think of each other...

some magazines, such as business week, do much more respected rankings...(i dont know how respected business week's rankings are specifically, just citing business week as an example because it is all that comes to mind)

In general, among the more selective programs, the following programs are all considered the best:
    Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan)
    New York University (Stern)
    University of California-Berkeley (Haas)
    University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (Ross)
    University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)

The following programs are also very respected:
    Carnegie Mellon University (Tepper)
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (Kennan Flagler)
    University of Texas-Austin (McCombs)
    University of Virginia (McIntire)

    The following programs are good:
    Cornell University
    Emory University
    Georgetown Univertsity
    Indiana University-Bloomington (Kelley)
    University of Notre Dame
    University of Southern California (Marshall)
    Washington University-St Louis (Olin)

    Other good programs:
    Case Western University
    Michigan State University (Broad)
    Ohio State University-Columbia (Fisher)
    Pennsylvania State University (Smeal)

For finance, Wharton and Stern grads usually fare the best in the recruiting process.
  • AlexandreAlexandre Registered User Posts: 24,630 Senior Member
I am not sure about that Penn. 10% of Michigan's class goes to JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. Another 20% go to Lehman's SBC, CS First Boston, ML etc...For IB, I would say Wharton is #1, closely followed by Ross and Stern.
  • Penn15Penn15 Registered User Posts: 259 Junior Member
Just because I excluded Ross in my comment doesn't mean that I am denouncing the school :) No need to be so defensive.
  • AlexandreAlexandre Registered User Posts: 24,630 Senior Member
I know Penn...I did not thingk you were denouncing the school. I just corrected your oversight! hehe

IMO, the best by reputation are Wharton, Stern, and Ross. Alexandre didn't include UIUC, but I say that would fit under the "good" schools.

why doesn't krannert feature in that list after all its got a top 10 ranking in a number of business majors including production and operations management [ No. 2 School] .
  • AlexandreAlexandre Registered User Posts: 24,630 Senior Member
Nash, Krannert does not make it because of a very legitimate reason. Back in 2000, Purdue had the nerve of beating Michigan in Football. You know me, I could not careless about Michigan, but for such unmitigated gal, Purdue drops in the rankings! hehe

Seriously, Krannert most certainly belongs in any list of top Business programns. I completely overlooked it.
