Housing Question

So I was looking on the housing website and noticed that for applying for housing next year they give priority status to freshmen wanting to live in PCV. However in my case when I sent in my ap scores I received 38 free elective units and 12 degree-applicable units and that brought my academic standing to sophomore standing. Since my major allows 28 units to go toward free electives i'm going to try and pursue a global politics minor. So does housing look at the number of years that a person has gone to cal poly or just academic standing when it comes to applying for second-year housing? If the academic standing is the issue could I call the registrar's office and try to get those 38 free elective units off of my record, thus lowering my academic standing to freshman status and allowing me to have 1st priority housing?

Do you want PCV? It the furthest from campus and will make it more challenging to meet other freshmen. It's nice though.

No, I'm an incoming freshman going to be in a triple within the residence halls for the 2014-15 academic year. My question was: when I apply for second-year housing do they give priority housing application status to first-year students who want to live in the on-campus apartments or do they give the priority status to "freshmen" students. I'm only asking because after talking to the registrars office they told me that I'm stuck as a 1st year Sophomore due to my ap credits. So in order to not lose out on housing for the 2015-16 academic year I'm now planning on moving into an off-campus apartment if they base priority second-year housing off of academic class standing.

That's a good call and ask question. Everyone at Poly seems to be very approachable and helpful. Good luck!

I'm guessing they will consider you a second year (sophomore), but it would help to call and confirm. Most people who want PCV seem to get a spot and several who applied drop out as soon as they secure off campus housing which opens up more spots.
