**CAL POLY SLO FALL 2016 TRANSFER THREAD**

ntweeterntweeter Registered User Posts: 52 Junior Member
Hey prospective future Mustangs :)

I know it's a little early to start a thread for the Fall 2016 Transfer Decisions, but I'm already starting to get anxious about college apps since UC apps opened up this last Saturday. So for now, this thread can be used for questions specifically related to transfer students and the transfer process to Cal Poly. If you are a Freshman student interested in Cal Poly, please check out the Freshman Fall 2016 thread (that is undoubtedly sure to be posted within the next few months).

Anyway, if anyone has questions, wants to post their current stats, or maybe wants to post transfer stats or links for admits for this last year, please feel free to do so!

For those of you who would like a general outline for which stats to post, here you go:

    Major:
IGETC: (completed- "yes" or "no" with explanation)
Major Prep: (courses specific to major completed- "yes" or "no" with explanation)
    GPA:
ECs: (i.e. volunteer work, community service, sports, clubs, honor societies, jobs, etc.)

    Major: Landscape Architecture
IGETC: Will be completed by Spring 2016
    Major Prep: A couple finished.
GPA: 3.18, confident it will be 3.55 after the Fall 2015 semester
ECs: Soccer club, architecture club, 21+ hours
So do ECs really matter for transfers?

I mean I have no idea how they determine their point values for admissions, but I'm assuming EC's add some sort of value to your overall score and show them you're active outside of school. They can't really hurt, right?

    TO ALL OTHER POSTERS:
Please also include whether or not you're an In-State or Out-of-State applicant. It would be a helpful reference for everyone who posts later on once decisions start coming out

Ugh, why did you start this already, I don't need to start stressing already, lol, jk, so....

    MAJOR: civil engineering
    IGETC: nope
Major Prep: yes, all will be done by spring
    GPA: 3.74
ECs: intern at civil engineering firm, Engineering club, Bike club, tutor at MESA
    IN-STATE

quick question... since we are transfers, would doing a quarter/ year in the dorms be good so we can meet people, or is off campus better?

    Major: Landscape Architecture
    IGETC: Nope
    Major Prep: A couple
    GPA: Currently 3.44
ECs: Interning for a small architectural office for an year.
    In-State

@Asamuels Also wow! First time seeing another LA transfer on these boards I think.
  • AsamuelsAsamuels Registered User Posts: 42 Junior Member
I know! @Arturu I've never seen anyone either. Does that give us a boost in admissions? Haha

@Asamuels From what I've heard the acceptance rate is somehow a 100% because to achieve their target number of transfers they need to accept 3 times their target because the yield rates are 30%. Although I'm not sure if this yield rate is the average for all majors or just for LA, so I don't want to get overconfident haha.

Can anyone confirm what I've heard about this?

@Arturu Omg I love you for posting that page.. I've been trying to find the updated enrollment projections for this year for the past week

if you want to compare that one to the previous 14-15, here is that one:

    http://content-calpoly-edu.s3.amazonaws.com/ir/1/publications_reports/targets/1415tarproj.pdf

Then you can see the actuals vs the target for the 14-15 year :)

also, here is the page on cal poly with all the projections:

Might as well add my info too :)

    Major: Biochemistry
IGETC: almost... I think I have one more class (and I'm taking intro to philosophy to fulfill it this semester) and I'll be done
Major Prep: Not quite finished yet (taking calc II, trig-based physics, & 1st half of o. chem this semester, then microbio, intro to cell/molecular bio, 2nd half of o. chem, and mayyyybe the 2nd half of trig-based physics in the spring... I'm shuddering at the thought of taking 19 units my last semester unless I can somehow avoid taking the intro to c&m bio class............ :-\" )
GPA: 3.88 (probably going to go down to a 3.7 or 3.6-something after this semester b/c of calc & o. chem)
ECs: currently volunteering @ a children's hospital w/ 60+ hrs, Phi Theta Kappa member, currently privately tutoring (~2 years), 2 years (jr. & sr.) as an editor for my HS yearbook, 4 yrs HS swim (idk if that matters at this point, but I'm still adding it), volunteer swim coach in HS, work experience in retail and sales for ~1.5 years

    Major: Mechanical Engineering
    In-state: yes
    IGETC: Yes
    Major Prep: Two engineering course
    GPA: 3.4
ECs: None. do ECs really matter for transfer?

I really don't expect to get in considering my GPA is pretty low. Might just go to SJSU since it's closer but would go to cal poly if I get in.

Do you guys know which Engineering major is easier to get in among other engineering majors?
  • AlessthompsonAlessthompson Registered User Posts: 1 New Member
    Hi!
    Major: Communications
    In state - Yes
    IGETC - Completed
Major Prep - Will be done by the end of Fall
    GPA - 3.36

What do you guys think? :/ I'm stressing out!!!

    What are my chances?

Intended Major - Computer Science/Software Engineering
    Overall GPA - 3.89
    Major GPA - 4.00
Units completed so far - 59
IGETC(Including foreign language req) will be finished by end of Spring 2016

I am currently taking 21 units and will take 21 units in the spring.

    EC's: Coder's Club, Engineering Club

I have racked up 8 W's during college. This fall semester is the start of my 4th year. My first two years of CC I was not focused and I even dropped out for 3 full semester.

But I have made up 6 of the W's with A's, the other 2W's I will not make up because one is a Bio course and the other is a intro to Physics course.

I will not be needing Bio for my major and since taking the intro Physics course, I have gotten A's in the more advanced Physics classes.

What are my chances? How will the W's affect my application?

I have 2 B's. I got a B in the first semester of my CC, summer 2012, it was a Conceptual Physics course. The other B, was in Macroeconomics course, Spring 2013, I did well on the exams but literally did not do any homework for Econ haha. I was honestly a really lazy student and unmotivated. Spring 2014, I dropped all my courses and received 5 W's. Though ever since then starting with Summer 2014, I have gotten 4.00's.

I feel like my GPA will drop a bit this semester because I am taking 21 units, though I am taking 2 courses for P/NP. I just have a bad feeling about my current Physics course. But I'll try my best.

    Currently taking
    -Linear Algebra & Differential Equations
-Physics: Waves, Optics, Thermodynamics (along with a Lab)
    -Programming Fundamentals of C++
    -History, Western Civilization
    -Music of Latin America/Caribbean (P/NP)
-American Sign Language (P/NP) (for my foreign language req, IGETC, will take another semester of sign language in spring)

MAJOR: Business Administration, Concentration Information Systems
IGETC: Missing 1 class, but will be finished by Spring.
Major Prep: Will be done by this semester.
    GPA: 3.04
    Essay: 9/10
    ECs: Working part time

GPA is low because I had not taken CC seriously years ago, but in the last 2 years, I've really pushed to go from a 1.75 to a 3.04. Hopefully my GPA will be higher by the end of this semester.
