4,900 New Freshmen At Cal Poly

My son an incoming freshman received an email from Cal Poly indicating that 4,900 Freshmen are moving into campus housing this fall and that 1,000 of them were accepted ED and filled several dorms prior to RD kids even being accepted.

If Cal Poly is your top choice--consider applying ED as many spots will be taken in popular majors and dorms before RD.

I've never heard or Majors being closed out b/c of ED. My assumption is that a % of spots is taken ED, and a corresponding % is reserved for RD.

Applying ED is a tricky proposition, so don't feel pressured. An RD applicant is accepted into their designated major, and housing isn't that big a deal.

The bottom line for CP is this. If you KNOW it is absolutely your first choice, apply ED. It's getting extremely hard to get into some majors at Poly and ED does slightly improve your chances.
