cal poly admissions

edited November 2007 in Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
I was wondering what people though my chances were of getting into cal poly, slo
applying early decision
applying to agricultural business(in the college of agriculture)
gpa: 3.48
sat scores: 1180(math and verbal)
"work" hours as listed on app: 11-15
"extracurricular" hours as listed on app: 11-15
I hold a leadership position(co-president) in one of the extracurricular clubs
I have taken four years of math(geometry, algebra 2 trig, precalc, and calc ap)
four years english
science: bio, chem, physio
history: world, us, government/econ
four years of spanish
three years of chorus and 1 year of photo

I feel like i have a pretty good chance seeing as the avg gpa is 3.5 and the avg sat score is 1110 for my major. what do you guys think? please, i need to hear from someone!

In addition, I was wondering if applying early decision increases your chances of being accepted to cal poly.

Oh and one last thing, what is the earliest date i can hear from cal poly for early decision?
Thanks!

i doubt it makes a difference for an impacted major, but if you're sure that you want to attend calpoly, you can go ahead and do ED.

i believe each college sends out their letters of admittance at different times but you should have them by march at the latest. also, if you're ED, you should have it by the end of december.

well, i've already applied ed, but what do you think my chances are with my gpa, sat, extracurriculars?

you seem as though you definitely have good criterion for admission.. i can't say you're a shoo in but your chances are definitely looking good.

hey, thanks for your help. I have one more question. If I am accepted to Cal Poly, what is the average gpa that i have to maintain throughout my senior year?

your stats are average, which is okay. hopefully the stats this year are similar to last year and you should be fine.

i think ed helps because they know you're set on going there, but at cal poly, it's all about numbers. they give certain points in each section on the app and then give you a total point value, and whatever number they chose that they're going to accept, they just pick the top whatever.. so like if they decided only 50 we're going to be admitted into ag business.. they'd take 50 students who applied under ag business with the highest point total on the app. so they'd rank everyone by their point total and just take the top 50.

you need to pass every class that you stated on your app "in progress" and "planned" with a C or better, but it's best to have better because sometimes you can still get your admissions acceptance revoked if you made a drastic change in gpa.. so don't assume you need just a C.. strive for an A!

    thanks,
ya i'm definently not slacking off this year. I'm just strugging in math and there is a possibility i could get a C. And like you said, hopefully the average from last year will stay the same.
