Chances of getting into CSULB

xeyriexeyrie Registered User Posts: 8 New Member
Hi i was wondering, what are my chances of getting into CSU Long Beach with all the school budget cut etc (out of state - NJ).

GPA weighted 3.774
SAT 1790 (620 CR 600 Math)
(took SAT this past weekend will know score in about 2 weeks)
SAT Math Lvl 2: 710

Take 4 years eng (all honors) 4 yr math (3 honors and 1 AP (this year)) 4 yr science (3 honors and 1 AP (this year)) 3 yr history (2 honors and 1 AP) 4 yr Spanish (all honors) I get B's and B+'s for final grades. For Spanish i get A's and A+'s as final grade.

With all the school budget cut in California I'm worried that I won't get in. If I don't, what other CSU schools are worth applying to? I want to major in some sort of biology.

Oh and, should I send in a letter of Recommendation? It says nothing about it in the CSULB admission website.

It's going to be hard getting in as an OOS student. It doesn't hurt to apply. Is there a reason you want to go to CSULB over all other CSUs?

    well...

1- location (its in southern california)
2- affordable.. Lol. all the UCs' out of state price = double the CSU out of state price

I'm applying to UCs too but i want CSU to be like safety schools. I THINK with my grades it shouldnt be hard to get into any CSU but with the school budget cuts.. i dunno... thats why im worried.

Well there are other CSUs like CSUF and SDSU in SoCal that you may interested in as well. All you can do is apply, and hope for the best. Good luck! :]

based on my stats provided above which CSU schools do u think are "safety schools" ? meaning that i have a great chance in being admitted.

My CSU list is CSU LongBeach, Fullerton, NorthRidge, Polytechnic State Pomona and SLO.

I'm hoping LongBeach, Fullerton, and Northridge are safety schools ><

And as for SDSU, I did look into it and it wasn't too bad but it has a reputation of being a "party school" and i want to become a doctor, i don't know if going to a "party school" will help when applying to med school in the future ><

SDSU, CSULB, and Cal Poly SLO are arguably the three best CSUs. SDSU may have a reputation of being a party school, but they have great resources for their academics.

Again it's going to be hard to get into any CSU as an OOS student because they cater to the students specifically in their service area/city. But based off your list, Fullerton and Northridge would be the two easier CSUs to get into.

I applied to CSULB and Cal Poly Pomona last night. I'm going to apply to Fullerton and Northridge right now. As for Cal Poly SLO, i don't know if i should apply. Right now its still on "early admission" and it says that first time freshmen must write down their intended major, once accepted into it, you can't change it. I don't like the fact that i wont be able to change my major ... D; I guess based on your advise I'll apply to SDSU hopefully I can get in >.< I'm exempt from those English and Math placement test so thats a good thing lol. ^^

I think there are 6 CSUs that stand out:

    1. Cal Poly SLO
    2. Sand Diego State
    3. Cal Poly Pomona
    4. Cal State Long Beach
    5. Cal State Fullerton
    6. San Jose State

The rest are just a bunch acronyms.

I didn't know Cal Poly had that rule. Apply to as many schools as you can. It never hurts to apply. Hopefully, you'll get into most of them! :]
