@RichardBIV We're doing the GPE in our first semester in CSULB not before we transfer that's what the advisor told me :)

@anyoneelse Hmm, when I when to transfer advisor for the fall transfer this year, she highly recommended to take the GPE before the SOAR for appropriate placement.

Its actually says that on their site as well: "Transfer students must take the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement Placement Exam (GPE) no later than their first semester at CSULB. We strongly encourage you to take the exam one month prior to attending SOAR orientation. This will assure that you are placed in the correct sequence of classes when you register during SOAR orientation."

Im sure its fine whenever you take it, as long as it is done before the first semester ends

@RichardBIV yeah that's weird cuz I asked because I was concerned about taking it before transfer, right now I'm kinda confused...guess I'll have to sign up for it.

    Hey Everyone!

I got accepted fall 2018 for criminal justice so I just wanted to clear some things up for you guys.

    1) Typically you can't sign in to the single sign-on until you get the official acceptance email.

    2) The GPE can be taken before or after SOAR. I took it last month (one month into the fall semester), which was fine. They just want you to have your grade back before the second semester starts so you can pick your classes accordingly.

    3) This school was my second choice, but I'm loving it here. I don't think it's the prettiest campus out of all of the CSU's, but I think that the people that go here are great! I've made a ton of friends already and everyone is really nice.

If you guys have any questions, let me know!

@rb8991 how hard was the GPE, and did you get a chance to enroll in your major's courses or were they mostly full/closed????

@rb8991 How is street parking around campus? I'm assuming very busy but do they have strict 2 hour parking, street cleaning, etc.?

    Hello everyone,
I called CSULB regarding the adt confirmation. I was told to go by what my “to do” list specifies on the mycsulb site. In my case, my to do list only requested transcripts therefore I was adviced to only submit transcripts. Also regarding school parking I was told busiest time is 11am-3pm and to allow 30-40 minutes to find parking.
    :)

So, i don't know if someone has the same problem, but they withdraw my application for the reason "you didn't complete your supplemental application on time". However, i did submit it on time.
I called the admission office, and they told me that they know about the problem, and are checking to see what happened.

Hey guys, I'm a bit confused. Since SOAR is in January. Wouldn't the majority of the classes be closed/full? How would we even get the classes we need?

@anyoneelse GPE was easy, it’s pretty much a junior high school essay prompt. I was able to enroll in the classes I needed for the first semester, but the only teachers left are usually the mediocre ones or the classes are at night.

@FinApplicant street parking is horrible, I don’t recommend it. Just buy the parking permit ($140 each semester) and show up early. Street parking isn’t enforced by security so there’s a higher chance of someone breaking into it or something happening. It’s also pretty far from classes so it’s not worth it. Parking on campus isn’t as bad as everyone says it is, just show up 30-45 minutes early and you should get a spot.

@itsjamesshun Yes, most of the classes are full. That’s how it works with everyone though. New students get last pick, then the semester after you’ll get to pick sooner. You’ll get the classes you’ll need, just not the best teachers. This is my first semester at CSULB and I’m taking 5 classes. 3 of them have about a 3.3 rating on RateMyProfessor and the other 2 have around a 4ish.

I also recommend everyone to bring their transcripts in if possible! There was a huge problem for fall 2018 and it took almost 2 months for them to be processed and put into the system. It was a lot quicker for me (about 2ish weeks) because I handed mine in.

@rb8991, You mentioned that the campus isn't as pretty as other CSU campuses, you think you can elaborate a bit on that? Is it unsafe? Dirty? Etc.And as far as I can tell the sequence for transfer admittance is 1. accept admission no later than Dec. 1- 2. Try to take the GPE ASAP but as long as its completed by the end of the first semester- 3. Complete pre-SOAR online orientation. - 4. Attend SOAR and through SOAR we can get guidance on what classes to take and actually pick them.

    Am I missing anything? lmao

@FinApplicant Yeah, sorry about that. It’s just an older campus. Some buildings are nice (mainly the science buildings), but the rest are kind of old. It’s not THAT bad though. The campus is clean and really safe.

And yes, those steps are correct. I would look over the class schedule a day or two before you attend SOAR and have some of your classes planned out because there’s a ton of people competing for open classes at SOAR.

@rb8991 Any chance you wandered the business admin building? I am a finance major but I will be making my personal campus visit in about a week to get a vibe from the university and community as a whole. By the way, I most likely won't be able to take the GPE until AFTER my first semester starts (like a month into my first semester)...is this a bad idea or should I really try to take it before SOAR and my first semester?

    Hello Everyone,

I created a discussion for which school to attend as a business major. I been accepted to both Fullerton and long beach for spring 2019. I would really appreciated if you comment to hear your suggestions. I think this could also help out some of you that are in the same situation.

@FinApplicant The Business building is cool. it's a red brick building with black glass panels with (I think?) 2 huge lecture halls (you'll have the first part of the SOAR orientation there) and a bunch of smaller classrooms that can fit about 30-50 people in them. I recommend also walking around the other parts of the campus because you'll have other classes elsewhere, even if they are business classes. I'd also go on a weekday when there's students there so you can get a feel of how it normally is.

I didn't take the GPE until I was a month into my first semester. As long as you have the grade back (which takes about 4-6 weeks for them to grade) before your second semester, it's fine.

@rb8991 thanks for the response. Yes, I plan on making the rounds around the campus on Monday of next week. I believe during this time I can get a good idea of how the campus feels and flows during this day. How about the library and recreation center? I most likely will utilize both places a lot as well.
