Decision: Accepted to CMU Mellon College of Science for Mathematics!

    Objective:

    SAT I (breakdown): 2250 (800 Math, 780 Writing, 670 Critical Reading)
ACT: 31, but did not submit
SAT II: 800 Math, 800 Chem
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.78
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Class doesn't rank
AP (place score in parenthesis): US History (4), Chemistry (4), Calc AB (5), Lang (4)
Senior Year Course Load: AP Physics C, Multivariable Calculus, Language Arts 4 Honors, 4th Year of Orchestra, AP Government and Comparative Politics, AP Statistics

Job/Work Experience: Softball and Baseball Little League Umpire- 2 years. The unique portion of my application I feel, I wrote my common app essay based on my experiences as an umpire.
Volunteer/Community service: A lot of community service all over the place, however the hours weren't documented because it was all with my Robotics team
Summer Activities: Took American Studies 1 and Geometry Honors over two separate summers
Essays: Common App and Supplements were fantastic (at least 9/10- I spent a lot of time on them)
    Teacher Recommendation: Pretty good
Counselor Rec: Not sure, I think it was solid
    Additional Rec: None
Interview: None, but I did visit the campus

    Other:

    Domestic Applicant
School Type: Public, however it is VERY competitive (a bit more than 10% of each graduating class goes to Top 15 colleges, it's absolutely insane for a public school)
    Ethnicity: Indian
    Gender: Male
    Income Bracket: ~100k
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None

    Reflection:

    Strengths: Weighted GPA, Subject Tests
Weaknesses: Lack of ECs/Leadership Roles, Low(ish) UW GPA, Somewhat low SAT 1 CR score
Why you think you were accepted: My stats are generally pretty good. Also, as I said before, I feel my essays were really strong.

Teacher Recommendation: APUSH teacher, I had a B in her class, so the fact that she said yes to writing the letter must mean that she had something good to say about me. Pre-calc teacher (from junior year), math team coach all four years. I would think I got a really good rec from her.
Counselor Rec: Know her relatively alright.
    Additional Rec: N/A

General Comments: I really wanted to get into CMU because of the interdisciplinary work between the arts and science that I often heard from my friends there. I guess I won't have the chance at CMU. Eh.

    Counselor Rec:Don't know
    Additional Rec:
Interview:It didn't go very well because she doesn't know much about what's going on in the engineering department.

    Country (if international applicant):China
    School Type:U.S Private Highschool
    Ethnicity:Asian
    Gender:Male

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I'm a rare specimen in that I'm an Asian male in Stem.

    Reflection

    Strengths: Test scores?
Weaknesses: Ethnicity, Lack of engineering related ECs, low GPA, no Nobel Prize
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Maybe because I wrote a sloppy additional info, which made them think that my essays are over-furnished
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Don't know yet

General Comments: Well, I prepared for the worst so this is not too stunning. I thought that I have what it takes, strong math classes, self studied physics B, Build a 3D printer at home, etc. I even went to visit Campus and demonstrated interest. I guess they don't need more Asian males in ECE.
