Carnegie Mellon has been ranked number 5 in North America and number 10 in the world in the latest (2006) London Times (THES) ranking of world universities in the area of technology (i.e. engineering and computer science). CMU has been also ranked 35th in the world (19th in North America and 17th in the US) in the THES overall ranking (all specialties, including social sciences, natural sciences, biomedicine, arts and humanities, in addition to technology).
