    [ b]Major: Public Relations/Advertising[ /b]
    [ b]Stats:[ /b][ list]
    [ *] SAT: 1720
    [ *] ACT:27
    [ *] GPA: 3.56
[ *] Rank: HS is competitive and does not rank
[ *] Other stats: Taken AP/Honors/Advanced courses each year in HS, HS sports for two years, HS clubs all 4 years, and some community service/event planning
    [ /list][ b]Subjective:[ /b][ list]
[ *] Essays: I feel as though my essays were very strong, and I spent a lot of time on each of them. Because I was applying to the PR/A program, I was required to complete some additional essays such as evaluating an ad campaign I found effective (I choose the "I'm a Mac" ads), writing about why I wanted to do PR, and also completing a creative resume.
[ *] Teacher Recs: My teacher recs were also very good. The PR/A program also required an additional teacher rec as to why I would be good at PR. My standard teacher rec came from my freshman honors writing/senior AP English teacher, and my PR rec letter came from my junior year humanities teacher who used to live in Orange County.
[ *] Counselor Rec: My counselor happens to be a family friend who I have known for many years and who was also a sorority sister with my mom. She has been able to see me grow both literally and figuratively throughout my life so I am sure that her letter was also very strong.
[ *] Hook (if any): Possibly my departmental essays. I know that through my essays I displayed a genuine interest in PR and attending Chapman.

I got my scholarship offering today, chancellor's for $18k. I would say nothing to sneeze at but that's still a $20k difference to make up annually :/ planning to appeal for a little more help. I'll let everyone know if they're at all receptive...

    [ /list][ b]Subjective:[ /b][ list]
[ *] Essays: Twowere required along with the common app, below:
Review of a Film Released in 2008: I wrote a three page review of "Ballast," the winner of the directing prize at Cannes in '08. It was very good.
Dream Job: Discussed my lifelong dream of becoming the lead film critic for the New Yorker.
[ *] Teacher Recs: Top-notch. Along with a rec from a world studies teacher, I had a recs from a professor at the School of Visual Arts and a professor at Emerson College who both raved about me.
[ *] Counselor Rec: We have a good relationship so i'm sure he wrote something complementary
[ *] Hook (if any): Attended the 2-week Duke Talent Identification Program: Reel Expressions at Chapman University, so I had a deep connection to Chapman which I relayed in most of my essays. I have a sick film resume, including summer programs at SVA and Emerson, and am the president of the film club at my school and am the senior film critic for my high school paper.

If you come to Chapman, you'll kick everyone's ass at our movie/actor game!
  • edthegurledthegurl Registered User Posts: 91 Junior Member
    what's our movie/actor game??? haha
  • sammybuckeye13sammybuckeye13 Registered User Posts: 16 New Member
Haha one person names an actor, the next person has to name a movie they were in, then the person that named an actor has to name an actor in that movie...so on and so forth until someone gets stumped

You missed the part where they can challenge, but that's alright. I filled Eileen in on facebook. :]

The scholarship usually comes separate from your financial aid package. You should get that by the end of March.

That is a great scholarship. Depending upon your EFC, the need estimated by your family's finances, you may get more. Appealing for more scholarship dollars probably not so much...but there are need grants, no interest loans and other, separate scholarships that you might be eligible for. The one you got is the biggest one Chapman offers, I believe.

Thanks for the info! I emailed the financial aid office and let them know about my situation (my stepdad just got laid off, and my EFC is lower than it might appear on FAFSA) before April 1 specifically so that they could update my package if they felt it was necessary. Of course they may still decide not to do any additional aid but at least I will have done everything I can.
