I am looking for a christian college with a contemporary music or worship program, but every college i can find favors the classical and orchestral style of music.

    Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, CA
    Biola University, Biola, CA

My daughter applied at both schools for their Worship Ministry Music Major (vocal emphasis). She ended up choosing Azusa, because the program seemed a little more contemporary and 'edgier' than Biola's. She starts as a freshman in a coupla weeks, so I'll let you know how she likes it!

Check out Crown College (west of Minneapolis). We've got a Worship Arts program/major that is incredible (contemporary and traditional). Crown College - A Private Christian College in Minnesota

Out of curiosity, what does your daughter think of Azusa?

Hi, I went to APU (not their music program) and LOVED it. I passed up a number of other schools because of the strengths of the professors at APU. They are not only very good at thinking and advancing their fields - more importantly for you - they're good at teaching!

My roommate at APU was a music major and thought it was the best program west of the Mississippi. She got a bunch of fundamental training and practical experience (they have a ton of concerts and other opportunities to perform) and she now leads a church youth group and does music for a couple of their services (huge church).

Anyway, best of luck to you and if you want to talk more about APU shoot me an email.

Hi Commanderkeen! Thanks for asking, my daughter couldn't be happier with her choice of Azusa. We live in the midwest, so she's far from home. Her dorm/freshman Alpha group has been such a great supportive community. For Thanksgiving Break, she went on the Mexico Missions trips that the school offers. She said there's always something to do on or off campus on the weekends. Good professors, friendly and helpful administration and she likes the chapel services, which is good cause they are mandatory there! She actually changed her major last month. Nothing against the music program, but she decided to go in a different direction. She said the students and community at Azusa are special. We're so thankful that someone told us about the school. Feel free to email me if you have specific questions about the school, happy to answer them.
