In those EC's you listed, is there one for which you have a passion and have exhibited leadership qualities? Have you won any awards for any of these activities and can you demonstrate how your participation in the activity has had a significant impact on the organization and other members?

From your list, it seems like speech (I assume you mean debate) or your student newspaper may be that activity. If you can impress the admissons committee with your EC's, I would think it may be the decisive factor. Of course, your essays and teacher recommendations will also be important.

    Thanks!

I feel that's a weakness of mine, as I got into many of these activities later in my high school career. Could you be more specific with what you think they look for in "making an impact"? If you or someone you know on CC has extensive knowledge/experience with regards to writing app essays, that'd be greatly appreciated.

    Anyone else have an opinion?

I just spoke with an adcom there and they really are striving for a specific type of person. She said that 50% of the application is leadership. They don't want to see a laundry list of ec's because that shows that they spread themselves too thin. They want kids that are involved with one, maybe two clubs, and heavily involved. They want to see the kind of impact that student had on the club which is demonstrated with teacher recomendations
