Good luck OWM. Safe travels to your son and his roommate. I'm sure every time he goes he feels more at home at Mizzou. What a transformation! Btw, my oldest has that t'shirt and I giggle every time he wears it. :)

I have to tell you all that starting this new thread was one of the very first things on my mind when I woke this morning. So I jumped out of bed, made the coffee and posted it. Here I now sit, eating a blueberry muffin (made from yesterday's blueberry pickings), drinking my coffee and feeling good to be in my new happy place!

I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy some new XL twin sheets for my son. I found a coupon for Penney's - http://f.chtah.com/i/2/95827765/welcomemain.html? and it looks like they have a lot of choices on sale. Just have to wait for son to wake up to tell me what color - blue or green or maybe black?? Does black wear okay for sheets? Don't see any spongebob ones or they would go to the top of the list.

So it is a bit bare bones but I am sure we will make it comfy over the upcoming years. ;) So glad to see those of you that made it here already. I have coffee in hand as I started reading- as I have done most days this year and hope to do for the forseeable future.

Good news! H is cleaning out the shed and barn to get rid of things!
Bad news! He asked if we should get rid of the clamshell for the top of the smallish SUV we have (my car is even smaller). I "lovingly" reminded him 1) that D is going to college in 2 months and 2) of the amount of stuff she takes for 1 week vacation- so likely we will be using it on our trips to and from college over the next 4 years.

In other good news I got up to find that D had already located and placed where she could see it, the packet of medical forms needed for college from her medical check-up today. (I had to remind her to make the appt a few times, and made her decide where to keep the paperwork rather than me keep track of it, but then stepped away from the whole process.) Nice to see her step up and get it done.

So here I am, and I'm already behind.......haven't caught up yet, but here we go.....there is no way I can keep up with all of you......

D just got her housing; first choice and is totally thrilled......looks like Elon keeps to their word (housing assigned by enrollment deposit)........so far, so good.....

Thanks Kathie for starting us on a new adventure. My H commented last night that we have 36 days till D heads off. Not that he is counting. I think he is probably going to have the hardest time adjusting : )

another parent of the college class of 2015 here- D will be attending the University of Pittsburgh in the fall, Arts& Sciences, undecided.

About those twin XL sheets- PB Teen has tons of styles- I know they are expensive but the quality is really good and the patterns are pretty- Dorm Room Ideas, Dorm Room Essentials & Dorm Room Decorating | PBdorm | PBdorm

My D just found out her housing assignment - at first she was bummed- she ended up in the all girls dorm - but now is realizing the rooms are a little nicer and larger- so she is okay with it.

Time to start shopping and organizing what's needed for the dorm room! I looked all over the internet for lists of what to bring and this was the best one I found- its organized by category so its easy to follow Checklist for college dorm - first year of college

Welcome pamom59- I think we have one or two other parents sending their students off to Pitt come the fall. Amandakayak's S comes to mind but there are others. Come back often! We are a friendly bunch.

Hey all! Newbie here. Been reading (lurking! LOL!) for a couple of days but thought I would wait until you started the new thread to introduce myself.

D1 will be attending the University of Alabama with plans to get a BFA in Studio Art and minor in CS. She is spending her summer as a paid intern as a code tester. So far she is enjoying it.

The Bama clan also includes D2 (rising HS Sophomore) and S (rising 6th grader).

I recognize some names from the UA board (Hi MilitaryMom!)

As far as getting stuff for the dorms, it has been like Christmas around here! D has been ordering stuff for the past couple of weeks and it seems like the UPS or FedEx guy is at my door everyday! My dining room is starting to look like a store!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hey all! Fancy new digs over here...I am so pumped to be called "awesome!" The new thread was on my mind too first thing this morning, never got a chance to say goodbye over on the old.

PAMom59 - Yep, my ds is going to Pitt too, he's up at Sutherland/engineering. Will be quite a transition going from his large single here (HA!) to a suite of 6 up there...should make for interesting reading. We didn't do orientation yet - going there 7/18. Hopefully with AP test scores in hand because I don't want to call.

mnmomof2 - Congrats!!! That is simply amazing!

Don't think dh is going to have much of an adjustment here, he is so out of touch with the daily happenings of the kids, honestly if they ran away, he probably wouldn't notice.

    Welcome BamaMom & pamom!!

I hope the new thread will attract new 'faces', and coax some out of the woodwork that have been waiting for us to start the new thread!

I know how you feel about your dining room BamaMom. We've been piling things into the library for months. Bluedad wanted to move everything downstairs but I stopped him. This way I know where everything is and can check easily on what still needs to be bought. I did think that the bedding, socks, undershirts, etc., need to be opened and washed before we go. No one cares but me...trying to control the very small aspects of a situation I have no control over.

I just realized this morning...we move Bluejr seven weeks from today. I do not wish to say this out loud, thankyouverymuch.

    Hello everyone! :)

Thanks for starting the new thread, kathiep! Great new name!

    Slowly sipping my tea…
I am vacillating between focusing on the details (rent a car, buy stuff for the dorm, worry about shot records) and thinking about what life will be like when she is 1000 miles away and our nest is empty.
    ^ Proudmomof2 ~ I hear you…

Congrats on all the nice 4s & 5s on the APs! (especially to mnmomof2 with the 6 5s!!!) I didn’t realize the results were available yesterday already, so I have to wait until DS gets up this morning, lol.

DS finally got started cleaning/organizing his room yesterday. That will take a few days for sure…

    Welcome to pamom59 and BamaMomof3!

Good morning, all! Good to see you here. But honestly, I can't take the countdowns to when the kids leave. I don't want to count the days yet.

We have not done any college shopping yet, except for the laptop. The other night at dinner we were talking about what of Son's stuff she would take...fridge, microwave, etc. It absolutely breaks my heart to be talking about that, but it will save us some money. (For the new folks, Son is the HS class of '09, brilliant but with Aspergers and lots of other issues, living back home now.)

I think I'm going to join Amazon Prime, for the 30 day trial period. That way we can receive free, fast shipping for 30 days on all the stuff we think of at the last minute.

Okay, off to burst into tears now.
  • blueiguanablueiguana Registered User Posts: 7,496 Senior Member
missy - Are you holding off on using the .edu email for a free Amazon prime account? We have one for our oldest that expires in a few weeks and are waiting to use Bluejr's university email to set up another free account. We have LOVED having it and have gotten spoiled to the point of using the one-day $4 shipping at times. :o With gas close to $4/gallon its cheaper then driving to the mall!!

Morning, everybody. I'm here. Thanks, kathiep, for starting this "awesome" new thread for us. DS is 42 days to move-in. His dorm has regular twin beds (you can request an XL mattress if you are really tall, which he is not).

I started a list yesterday with other items he will need that you might not think of, such as a few plastic cups, microwavable bowl and plate, a coffee mug, fork, spoon and knife, etc. He's talked to his roommate, but they haven't determined who is bringing the TV, microwave, fridge yet, but I'm sure they will have a microwave, so he will need "dishes" to use in it.

We also need to order his laptop; the school has a good deal with Dell and Mac; DH said the Dell price is even better than what he can get from his Dell connections through work.

Hope everybody has a wonderful holiday weekend, with no fires, floods, tornados, hurricanes, mosquitos, snakes, bears, or any other "adverse situations"! :)
