Picked DS22 up from WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering) at University of IL-Urbana-Champaign Saturday. If your student is interested in engineering, I highly recommend this camp. They have several different focuses, some for rising 9/10 graders and some for rising 11/12 graders.

Honestly, UI had not been on my list for DS22 until this camp. After a guided tour of the engineering campus on drop-off day, self-touring other parts of the campus, learning UI is ranked 6th in US for engineering, etc., DS22 and I agree it’s now on the list!

UIUC was on our S16 list of schools for CS. He toured the campus the summer ahead of his Sr year in HS and thought it was great.

Hi everyone!! I'm new to this thread, but not new to CC. I have two boys- ages 29 (UPENN) and 26 (Wesleyan). I was on the HS Class of 2010 list for a long time (which turned into the College Class of 2014). My daughter is turning 14 next week and I am back on with the HS Class of 2022! I loved the college application process for my boys and am really looking forward to touring colleges again. We visited Brown last year. She took the SATs in 7th grade and again in June (results come out next week). Looking forward to getting to know you all. The next four years will fly by!

Hi @sewemma - great to have a veteran as part of the group. I have two kids, DS22 is the first to hit high school. Looking forward to sharing the journey our kids will go through.

    Thanks, sfStem!
This was a really great resource when son #2 was looking at colleges. Son #1 went to The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) for four years (with a painting degree) before he went of to the University of Pennsylvania for a BFA. He always knew art was his thing, so we were only looking at art schools. He now works at UPENN and has his own graphics design business. Son#2 applied to 12 colleges! He now lives in Brooklyn and works in Manhattan. He has been very lucky to be able to travel a lot for work and pleasure. My daughter is a real combo of her older brothers. (And she knows they have set the bar high!) She is in the gifted program at school, but is also talented musically. So she’s looking toward liberal arts with a music/theater program. Who knows. It’s nice being in the early stages and watching them grow.
We live about an hour northeast of Philadelphia.

    Where is everyone from?

San Franciscan here. Yes, we endure the insane housing prices and homelessness. But still love living in the city proper.

HI! Just stopping in to introduce myself. No matter how much I want to deny it, my baby is starting High School in September. I am from NY, have a ds17 who just finished his 1st year at University of Kentucky (and LOVES it) and I admit I'm not totally ready to think about the next one's college adventure.

    Hi Collegecue,
Nice to meet you! At least you won’t have two kids in college at the same time!

Hello all. I'm from TX and have a daughter getting ready to attend a large public high school (~4,000) in the fall. We have a S16 who just finished his sophomore year at Stanford (a happy, hard working student).

Hi @Rivet2000 - I enjoyed your spirited debate on the CS thread (does the college matter for CS major?). Look forward to our next four years of parenting high schoolers. I've got two kids, my rising 9th grade son is my oldest.

Hi Rivet2000, One of my favorite CCers is from Austin. She’s one of my favorite people IRL too!

@sewemma so true, I am glad I won't have 2 in at the same time but I feel like my ds22 is soooo much younger than my ds17 was at this time.

Collegecue- yep, I get it. My kids are 29, 26, and 14 (on Sunday). We went to NYC yesterday to see Waitress on Broadway. My 26 yr old met us for lunch. We rarely get to see him, so it was a real treat. But he’s definitely more like an uncle than a brother. It’s like having two different families when they are so far apart. As yours get older the gap will close.

Leaving today to pick up D22 from her biotech camp. Added benefit is that our S is still on campus so we'll all be together. So, nice dinner with S tonight. Pick up D22 tomorrow morning, brunch, then a day trip up the coast. We'll all be together for the World cup final on Sunday, then fly back home. Nice.

Nice thread for those of us with kids about to start high school:

"What is the one thing you wish you knew when your kid started HS?"

My daughter just finished her Girl Scouts Theater camp. She had a blast, delved deep into social justice themes with her fellow members, and created and put up a performance that was simply amazing. She has grown so much in these three weeks!

We have a one week family vacation, then a couple of weeks rest before she has her school band camp the week before school starts for everyone. She has her registration the same week of band camp. We will see then what her actual schedule looks like.

Back to school is August 22nd. When does everyone else go back to school?
