I was just wondering what is better to do: major in mathematical economics or double major in math and economics?

"Better" for whom or for what?

Put things into context. And if you are a Colgate freshman why not discuss this with your freshman seminar professor/academic advisor, the departments themselves and/or the preprofessional career center staff.

Good luck with your college plans!
