How late can my teacher recs be for ED ADMISSION?

edited November 2005 in College Admissions
Guys, I have sent EVERYTHING in from personal statement, two-month hard worked essays, artistic material, pictures, resume, transcripts, SAT scores- all solid for ED admission. The problem is my teachers have not sent their ED reccs in yet, so I am curious how late can they be for ED admission? there was just a problem so I hope that colleges get lots of mail and that the reccs can at least be delayed by a week or so?

What are the consequences of late reccs?

Consequences are having your app considered with the RD pool.

That would be terrible, I expected reccs to be one of those things out of a student's control and I hope that arriving several days later is not a big issue.

    Thanks.

it says for most colleges that EVERYTHING has to be postmarked by nov. 1

mine IS postmarked by that date...however in Canada...

i use regular mail service to send out on Oct 31 which is today P.T...
7-10 dayz???? ...donno...kinda of stupid..i use express for the recs that were mailed way earlier
wonder if that will be late ...... i do hear that as long as all stuff arrive before Nov 15...u are fine....

I know the postmarked rule. And I know that it is very STRICT for applicants. But teachers, who are busy and such (just like students), yet they are not th ones who are applying and also we do not have control over when they send the reccs. As usual, problems may arise. So, I was wondeirng what day in November should be the "you're ok" postmarked date.

Go to the teachers before school tomorrow and tell them you are there to pick up your sealed rec and take it to the post office. (You should have done that last week.) Hopefully, they have written them. If not, ask them if they will be able to have it done by Wednesday. At which time you repeat the above followup procedure until they are sent. Good luck. And learn from this and do it differently for your RD schools.

I read in the Katherine Cohen admissions book today that you can send materials in late because when you put into perspective, colleges with 15k applicants are receiving about 40k peices of mail and it takes them a while to sort it. She says that you can get away with two-even three weeks past the deadline.

My teachers told me that they were planning on sending them in one or two days late. I freaked out a little bit and they reassured me that they've done this for years and teachers can get away with a little bit of lateness.

So, I guess it's ok. It better be, or I'll kill my teachers.
