The Big EA/ED Questions

... What is it?

Is applying EA/ED simply applying a few months earlier for a variating boost in one's chance at being accepted?

Is there a difference between EA and ED?

Do more competitive applications tend to apply EA/ED--and thereby, is it worth it to risk competing with those applicants, despite a better admission statistic?
