Community service?

Does starting a club and then maintaining it count for community service hours when you apply to college or Summer programs and things of that nature? So for example I've started my school's debate club and put a lot of hours into it. Is that community service? I'm currently under the impression that it is, but I'd like to make sure.

Thanks in advance!

Community svc examples: volunteering at a hosp, library, nursing home. Working for Habitat for Humanity.

What you've done is work on your school ECs. Akin to the hours of practice a volleyballer puts in. Should she list that as "community service"?

    Don't straw grasp.

Hint for you: nobody really cares about the number of hours you do community service. It's so 1980s
