do you think it is worth the cost of going to NYU over UT Austin (in state tuition) for economics? i love new york, but i just can't tell if i would fit in with the nyu student body. and the cost is a lot more.

If you are a business or film major, then yes, definitely.

everyone learns to fit in in NYC, but it takes some time for many people. my friend chose NYU over UT last year but he had plenty of money and loved NYU so he went. personally, i'd choose UT (I AM going there lol) but many others would prefer paying for NYU

Last year for me it was a decision between going to a school in NYC or staying in Cali, where it would have been a whole lot cheaper because of the California Grant taht they give here.

I chose to stay in Cali, and even though the NYC school was my first choice, I learned to love and am happy that I chose the Cali school because in the end it's really not worth spending a whole lot of money for the same education. It's up to you what you do with the education. If you're a shy timid person and just want to learn, NYU is not the place to go, but if you know and love networking than NYU may be the place.

A lot of today's world is networking, so to pay thousands more and not be able to actually take advantage of the whole networking aspect of going to a school like that, it's not worth it.

Im in the same spot actually, except I had a problem with my transcript and my admission to UT is pending on an appeals committee.

If I do get in though it'll be NYU's Stern with a 15,000/year Stern Scholarship versus UT's McCombs with ??? Financial Aid.

I don't think NYU is worth it over UT for business. Just the expense of living in NY is ridiculous. If you think you will probably settle in Texas after college, it's a no-brainer. If you want a campus and a real college experience, it's a no-brainer. If you want city life over all else, go to NYU and spend the bucks. Otherwise, stick with UT.
