If you volunteered somewhere, for instance at a food bank every summer, how can you provide validation that you did? I mean for awards there's certificates/medals/trophies but how would a college know that you did volunteer x amount of hours somewhere?

It's based off a system of trust. The amount of hours, as long as it's not exorbitant, shouldn't really impact admission decision. If it's anything truly notable, it could be verified by your letters of recommendation. Otherwise, just try to maintain integrity because there's not really much more than a nominal difference as to whether you volunteered 200 hours at a food bank or 300 hours at a food bank.

@capitalamerica‌ Ah ok, I was just wondering because one of my friends is sending in a letter of rec from one of the volunteer organizations that she works with on a regular basis and I didn't know whether to do the same or not (probably won't because I only volunteer there over the summer). Thanks!
