Stella Ituze, 18, has become the first Rwandan to be awarded scholarships in 10 of the best universities in the world including four Ivy League colleges. ... The five Ivy League colleges include, Harvard University, Columbia University, Princeton University, Brown University and Stanford University (Ivy League plus college).

The other top universities she got accepted in include, Duke University, Williams College, Pomona College, Amherst College and Vanderbilt University." ...

Great local news article from a Rwandan point of view.

She has been accepted and automatically awarded scholarships to four Ivy League colleges

    Can anyone explain?

Obviously it is either FA or private scholarships.

I'd guess the "scholarships" are need-based aid, not strictly merit-based aid.

Congrats to her, but I cringe at the phrase "Ivy League scholarships". Likely an innocent misunderstanding of the system in this case, but we hear this from other people too.

@CourtneyThurston No knock on the teen or the article from me, but @Dave_Berry definitely knows these finer points and could have chosen a different thread title and pull out quote.

""The five Ivy League colleges include, Harvard University, Columbia University, Princeton University, Brown University and Stanford University"

FYI. Stanford is not an "Ivy League College".

Can someone edit that first post and correct it?

It's sad that this is a headlined story on the front page as it's misleading. There aren't scholarships from Ivy League colleges.

It is an AMAZING story... with a misleading headline on the very front page. Unfortunate.
