How can I stand out to admissions officers/show demonstrated interest?

Hi everyone! I am applying to Northwestern and Duke during the regular decision round this year and I am wondering if anyone knows of anything I can do to increase my chances of getting in. I am planning on signing up for virtual visits and reaching out to admissions officers to show demonstrated interest, but is there anything else I can do? Also, what would be good questions or things to say when I email the AO? My grades and extracurriculars are sub par so I want to do whatever I can now to increase my chances. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
