    Chances are that cutting it down will help you get to the essence of what you are trying to say and therefore make it better. A little over most likely won't be a big deal, but 72 words is almost 15% extra. That being said, adcoms have much better things to do than count words. Just do what you think makes the essay the best it can be.

    It's fine...some of mine were 600-800 words and I was fine for my schools.

    Do they specifically say "IF YOU GO OVER 500 WORDS YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DENIED ADMISSION"?

    If not, don't worry about it. I doubt they check every word. However, if the extra words are unnecessary, then you might be in some trouble.

    You won't get into trouble for going over...as long as it is not much 700-750.
