Hi, i'm going into business and i've gotten accepting from UIUC and umich and waiting for NYU and USC. The competition at NYU and umich will be harder, thus the classes will be harder and it will be harder to be ranked among the top of the school, while it would be easier to do so at UIUC. So my question is, will it look better (in terms of jobe placement) be be ranked among the top at UIUC, or maybe not as high at Umich or nyu?

fyi: i'm not going to major in accounting, but I live in illinois, UIUC is a lot cheaper for me

what makes you think you're going to be at the top of UIUC? It has stats that are comparable to both UMich and NYU. Although it's slightly easier to be admitted I think it's a marginal difference.

I'd speculate that U-M is more competitive on average because of the second selection to get into Ross. It's also more accurate as it is based on college GPA and you need to demostrate leadership and community services. Compared to schools like UI which admit freshmen directly into business school. Some of those may not come up to potential in college.

However, I'd expect the top students at UI are just as good. Yeah, I agree it may not be any easier to be at the top of the class at UI.

You are woefully misinformed if you think hiring by business is done on the basis of class ranking. Actually colleges don't even give students their ranks.

Businesses recruiting college students care about gpa, but just that you have a good enough one to show that you've studied and have applied yourself. Its merely a cutoff; students don't get hired in order of college gpa! Once you've met the cutoff, then the other things you've done in college and in the recruiting process come into play. Have you had internships? Leadership positions? How do you do at the interviews? Can you convince the hiring manager you have the smarts and teamwork skills for them to want you in their group?

If you think that picking an easy-enough school so you can get a good gpa is all you have to do to have jobs a-waiting when you graduate, you are in for a sad surprise in 4 years.
