Buy college laptop early?

Hey everyone. I currently own a dv4 hp laptop that has broken down to the point where it is useless for me. It has turned in to a desktop after its lcd screen broke and I needed to start using an external monitor...

Anyways, I am considering buying a new laptop, but seeing as I am halfway through junior year of high school, I am unsure if this is the right time. Many laptops out there have 4 year warranties, which would last me through junior year of college. The one I have in mind specifically is the Lenovo Thinkpad T420s. It seems sturdy, and from my research, looks like it would last well after the warranty expires. What do you all think? Should I buy the laptop now (will it last me a full five years), or should I hope for the best and work with my current laptop/desktop through senior year (or until it breaks down completely) and buy the thinkpad then?

If you are above absolute basic knowledge level with a computers, yes, you can easily make it last that long. Go for it now to make your last real year of high school bearable.

I appreciate the reply, but my parents have convinced me that macbook pro is the way to go. Apple only offers a three year extended (1+2) warranty, which would last me through sophomore year of college... Does this change your response? Or should I still buy the laptop now?

I'm not going to comment on when you should buy a computer since it will be able to do the same thing it did on the day you got it when you enter college, but I would like to say the Macbook Pro and the Thinkpad series are both great choices.

The longer you wait to buy a computer, the lower the price/higher the performance due to the continuous improvement in technology. The best time of year to buy a computer is during back-to-school sales, because prices are cheapest.

If you're going to get a MBP, wait until you need it before you buy it. Macs rarely go on sale, and like all computers, they deprecate ridiculously fast compared to other items.
