I'd like to buy a laptop for college, preferably Toshiba or HP. But I have a few questions in my head:

1. Which size do you prefer, 13.3" or 15.4"? I do not need high graphics because I won't be playing games and I also don't want a netbook because its too small for me and the specs won't be too good. I would mainly use it for classes (I hope to be a science major) and would use it for papers, assignments and reports (Basically a lot of typing). I also will do the normal activities like browsing, chatting, watching movies etc.

2. Keeping the screen size in mind, how much should the laptop weigh? What is an optimum? I'd love to carry it around campus in my backpack along with books. (Please remember that I won't be buying netbooks because they'r too small to type things in).

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

Laptops have deplorable battery lives and are much heavier than they seem, get a netbook isntead- those <10inch minilaptops pack just as muc hprocessing power and are half the price. And since you won't be doing any heavy gaming, it should suit your purposes perfectly. The best ones in the market right now are the aspire one and the eee pc. They run for around 300-400 dollars, and have battery lives over nine hours. Check them out.

    Good luck.

If you're ready to switch from Windows, get a MacBook or MacBook Pro.

If you're not ready to switch from Windows, think about getting a Dell but pay for the Complete Care coverage because they come to your house for repairs. They'll even come to your college to fix it. Also, most college computer care departments are certified to repair Dells.

I agree with you. Don't get a netbook as your primary laptop.

13-inch is much more portable. If you plan to take it with you to classes and around campus and such, a smaller laptop would be easier to fit into your backpack and not be such a burden.
