Academic Suspension and Financial Aid

I am currently a Sophomore in a four year institution and have recently fell on difficult times grades wise. I am also on academic probation and my greatest fear is not meeting GPA requirements and being placed on academic suspension. If I do not meet requirements I would like to go to a community college to take some course. If I do so will I be eligible for federal aid? If so, Is there anything special I have to do?

Thank you
