Every website is like that. Would you really want a response from every single person who happened to open your thread? Even the ones who don't know the answer to the question?
Sometimes, the topic is pretty vague. I open the thread, but realize I have nothing substantial to add to the discussion-- either I know nothing about it, or what I would say has already been said. So I don't respond.

Oh, I don't know. Sometimes it's curiosity as to why the user felt compelled to click bait with a million question marks in the header. Or to see what the question was that was obviously placed in an incorrect forum. Or to call attention to a moderator that the user's name violates Terms of Service.
