Admissions Essay Help

Hi,

I was thinking about writing an admissions essay about prior admissions experience. Specifically how I did not gain entrance into a particularly magnate high school and what I learned from that process - better work ethic, etc.

Is this a good idea? Or is writing an admissions essay about admissions too narrow?

Also I am Asian. Would this drive home the stereotype of the overambitious "model" Asian applicant stereotype?

Race card? I'm not going to play the race card. My question was whether or not my essay topic would emphasize certain racial stereotypes.

I'd say for the essay you would want to focus on areas other than your great efforts in school and academics. It seems like the stereotypical Asian you are referring to likes to study very hard. Even if this was true of you, you would not want to center your essay on a topic such as that. The colleges can already see your intelligence and work ethic from your transcript and test scores.

All they need to know about your work ethic will be in your transcript and recs. Use the essay to tell them about something not apparent.
