Writing about sexual abuse?

Would it be inappropriate to write about being sexually abused as a child, if it affected who you are today? Or is that too far?
I'm trying to think of what I can write about for my essay that would be appropriate.

    I would go for it.

It may seem a bit 'far' to you, but I think having overcome the abuse shows strength unmatched in most other applicants.
