Can you publish an admissions essay or submit it for contests?

I am a writer and regularly submit my writing for publication or contests if I like it enough. For one scholarship application, I have written two essays which I genuinely love. Is it a faux pas to submit these for publication at a literary magazine? What about submitting them to a writing contest like Scholastic Art & Writing? Would I have to wait until a decision was made on my application before submitting the writing elsewhere? Thanks for the help.

You might want to wait until after May 2019 I think. You wouldn’t want some other student plagiarizing your essay and saying it’s theirs. But that’s just my gut talking; I could be wrong.
