Writing about video games in supplemental prompt

One of Harvey Mudd's supplemental prompts is "What is one thing we won’t know about you after reading your application?", and I was thinking about writing about how playing a specific video game (competitively for years) has given me a desire to improve myself. Given how talking about video games seems to be controversial in these essays, is this topic fine?

If you still have time to delete this thread, I would do so, or at least edit it so that your subject matter is vague. Your essay idea should be yours alone. Reach out on the essay readers thread and PM someone there. I would delete the subject matter in both your thread title and your post here.

i wrote about playing a video game too, and my parents thought it was a bad idea at first but it had a good meaning behind it and it honestly worked. as long as you connect it in a meaningful way i think its a good idea

No, no, no. I would advise against it for a number of reasons.

See, that's what I'm having trouble with. I understand that video games aren't that great of an idea because some college admissions officers don't like that topic, and it seems as though I'm just a kid who stays at home only on games and doesn't contribute much to his community. However, for a supplemental question that asks for something that isn't on the application (so ECs are out, and I already wrote about my passions in my main essay), I'm having trouble deciding on a good topic (the other 2 alternative prompts aren't that promising either). This specific video game is also something that has actually benefited me in everyday life, so I feel conflicted.

Btw, gaming is an up and coming varsity sport at college. My son’s freshman year roommate is on the varsity team and lives and breathes gaming. I would ask the experts in the essay readers thread.

Maybe talk about a certain club with video gaming
