Is it okay to write about learning sign language in supplement essay?

I'm reading the USC supplement essay, "Describe something outside of your academic focus about which you are interested in learning." I'm just worried because I mentioned that I was self studying ASL for four years in my activities list for common app. Is it better to not repeat stuff i've kind of already mentioned?
