Would a creative writing topic be acceptable to write about (Common App)

Yes, I do understand that it must be written well, be personal, and match the prompt (of course) or else the essay is going to suck anyway. However, I would really like to know is whether this could be a valid topic to write about. In short, I would basically explain how/why I am passionate about creative/fiction writing an get into detail.

How would colleges typically view an essay like this? Do they just prefer personal experiences instead of things like passions or interests, even if those may also be personal? Because I'm gonna be honest, I can't think of a single personal experience I can write about.

If it is meaningful to you, and it satisfies the requirements, then by all means do so. We attended info sessions at virtually all the elite schools, and the refrain about writing about your passion - whatever it is - was ubiquitous. Colleges want you to use the essay to tell them about you - in your own words.

If you like to write fanfic, or other creative writing - and you can explain why you enjoy this, then this precisely the personal insight that schools are hoping to learn from your essay.

Then again, if you write about how you use your creative writing, and liken it to a rambling manifesto about how you think Ted Kaczynski was really misunderstood, then the school might not just reject your application, but they may also call the authorities.....

    Best of luck to you!
