Do colleges prefer college essays that are focused on a specific event?

Do colleges prefer college essays that are focused on a specific event? Or do colleges like more general/broad essays? My current essay is more broad/vague, and my anecdote is not a specific event in my life. My essay is more like a giant metaphor. Is this okay for my college admissions essay? Or would you recommend me change it to something different? If anyone qualified would like to read my essay please PM me!! Thank you so much
