Med school hopefuls

For those of you, who just completed freshman year, interested or were interested in med school, how did you do this year and are you still on a med school path? By med school I mean M.D, D.O, veterinary, and dental btw. Do you think your GPA is competitive enough? Whats your biggest worry? What are you doing this summer? And what are your backup plans if you don't get into med school?

For me: I'm in the middle of a transfer from the University of Scranton to Penn State and currently have a GPA of 3.61. I'm a biology major on the deans list and my goal is either M.D or D.O school. I'm not looking to get into a big med school such as an Ivy school so anyone will do. I do think my GPA is competitive for a lot of D.O schools and some M.D schools but again its just my freshman year. This summer I will be working and taking Calculus 1 and 2 at a local university. My biggest worry is the MCAT because I'm not a standardize test taker. My backup plans are, P.A school, nurse prac, or any other medical related field.

-I'd say I did well freshman year (3.87 cGPA / 3.83 sGPA) and, yes, I am still on the medical school path.
Do you think your GPA is competitive enough?
-For the moment. Given that I'm a Biochem major, it's guaranteed to go down. :(
    Whats your biggest worry?
-The application process. I've heard it's a nightmare.
What are you doing this summer?
-Currently taking Philosophy, General Psych, Beginning Spanish, and Health Ed. at a CC (two courses per summer semester). The credits will help me finish undergrad one year early.
And what are your backup plans if you don't get into med school?
-I had entertained the idea of becoming a Medical Physicist if medical school didn't work out, though I recently found out that most Med Phys. grad programs really don't take Biochem majors. At the moment, it's medical school or bust.

"The application process. I've heard it's a nightmare."

    Why is that?

Can be confusing, time consuming (those secondaries won't fill themselves), expensive (if you apply to a lot of schools), can be a crap shoot for anybody, sending in LOR's can be a pain in the a** if your professors are notorious for being lazy, etc.
