Just looking for some thoughts here. I am currently in a DPT program. I live 50 minutes to an hour from school. I only have class 8-12 monday-friday. Would commuting be too much? It would save a lot of money and i am always a lot happier when i am at home. In undergrad i had an apartment and always found myself feeling alone, really sad, crying a lot. I dont want to be in that position again with the demands of graduate school, but i also dont know if that commute is doable.

I am in college a little over 3 and half hours from home. I can relate to feel alone, really sad, homesick, and crying a lot. I might even be crying as I am typing this ;) In many ways, at times I wish I had picked somewhere closer to home and commuted. But I am here and going to stick it out, even with and through the tears. My sister though, chose a college about 30 minutes from home and she commutes and lives at home. She doesn't have the loneliness and homesickness issues although we are super close and she misses me and I miss her. College is stressful enough on it's own without the added pressure of being homesick and lonely. In my case, I'm sticking out figuring what doesn't kill me will make me stronger. In my sister's case, shoe often uses her commute time to cry from the stress of classes. If you're close to your family and happier at home, that wins the battle in my humble opinion.

Do what you feel will work best for you. Before you decide you may want to take a test drive to the college and be sure you can comfortably get there by 7:45 or so.

The OP asked the question in March and is long gone, so the thread really did not need to be bumped. Closing.
